Yeah, he's close to being banned. He's really asking for it. Typical troll forum style of making statements, back-tracking, appearing to agree on certain issues, then turn around and disagree, all under the guise of "debate, questioning and thinking."
How can you be engaged in debate when too many of your posts are getting deleted? If you claim that your being a troll here involves your "thinking", how do you explain that your "thinking" posts are continually getting deleted. For a forum troll such as yourself, the thinking you need to be doing is finding something better to do with your time.
Okay, let me preface this by saying I’m not an economist but after reading this thread it seems that economists have a lot of arbitrary rules about looking at the economy. For instance one person said we can’t be in a recession because it hasn’t gone on long enough. The depression of the 30s happened almost over night, waiting 2 quarters to say it was a depression is a little like finding someone shot in the head 12 times and saying we won’t know he’s dead till the coroner gets here. Then someone said that running the economy is different than running a household, that’s true mostly because in running the economy you can get away with bad economics longer but eventually the house of cards must come cashing down. Eventually when the debit is large enough that you no longer can keep up with the interest payments it all comes apart. I don’t know jack about the statistics you bandy about but I’ll tell you this, from what I see things are not looking good. My work involves driving people all over the Denver metro area. This is what I see, every neighborhood I drive into, every street has one or two houses for sale and many are unoccupied. Almost every apartment building has a sign saying 1 to 2 months free rent. Practically every street corner has one or more people with signs that say; homeless, anything will help. Now, I’m 60 years old and in my lifetime I’ve never seen the like! I use to be a carpenter doing framing and exterior trim on custom homes, 20 years ago I was making $10 a hour, if I were to return to carpentry today I would still only be making about $10 a hour, does that sound like a flourishing economy? I’ve always thought of the Blue Collar workers of America as being the economic back bone of America but where are their jobs? You talk of the creation of new jobs but for whom? Somehow I don’t think all of this is going to be solved by giving me $600 or by the government barrowing and spending more money!
Acqua, Please take it that responding to trolls like you whose posts keep getting deleted is hardly what is called, "debating". Do us all a favor and stop trolling this site and please don't make the moderator's job of constantly having to delete your posts, much tougher than it needs to be.
No,but the 600 bucks will certainly help pay for 5.00 a gallon gas (the oil companies need the $)and to help China's economy when we rush out and buy some more plastic shit. And I wonder how that gold is gonna taste when the shit really comes down.Government statistics? Why,we should trust everything they tell us,don't ya know.Don't worry.Everything's fine.Georgie-boy says so.A few people lose their houses?Fuck 'em.They can sit under a bridge somewhere and eat gold.Me ?I'm fine ,so everything must be hunky-fucken' dory.
-there were several major warning signs leading up to the crash(there were actually two crashes not one) -the government back then thought everything would work itself out and never took steps to combat the problems and they let all the banks die -i dont know where you're working but, a carpenter here can make at least $25 an hour you can see from this diagram how the government has become more effective in dealing with bumps in the business cycle during this downturn or recession whatever you want to call it the housing sector has been hit the hardest, whereas in the 2001 recession it was the technology sector so maybe because you don't work in the tech sector is why you didn't notice how bad it was for people then also, in Canada the price of gasoline is almost $5 a gallon and you don't see people crying and complaining there... ($1.3 for a litre, 1 gallon= 3.78 litre 1.3x3.78=4.91$ a gallon I guess the fed is trying? What would you guys suggest it do, it lowered interest rates which will lower the relative debt of all americans...and help with monthly payments on those debts and is giving out money(which is kind of stupid because most of its going to be leaked out of the economy and into China)they should have just invest that money into infrastructure, but then people would complain that they would never see any of the results or money but the lower dollar is making Chinese goods more expensive, and when people don't have a lot of disposable income they will spend less of it on crap from china/imported stuff
Hey FedUp, Are you ready for this? While currently, the U.S. is in the midst of dire fiscal, monetary, credit crunch, rising oil prices, declining value of the dollar, not to mention the $12 billion a month going to the war, Iraq has a budget surplus. Nice job, George Bush! Auditor: Iraq faces budget surplus http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080311/ap_on_go_co/us_iraq
thats only because their government is so unorganized it doesn't even know how to spend the money or where, the U.S is basically doing all the spending for them with U.S taxpayer money lol
How much you make is moot, as it has to be adjusted to inflation and the cost of living in your area. Therefore, $ 25 bucks an hour would actually be a lot less than that compared to other areas of the country. If you consider borrowing and continued borrowing and overspending, is how government has become effective in dealing with "the bumps in the business cycle", I have a bridge to sell you. :jester:
true, but the cost of living here hasn't risen that much, it has risen but it is still managable, and inflation is still relatively low
well they aren't ignoring it, they are trying to take some monetary/fiscal action to combat the problem? I used the Canadian gas thing to point out that other people in other countries have to pay much more for petroleum products and they are doing fine. Also, I go to Canada quite frequently, and I don't know if you've noticed how bad their healthcare system is. You'll die waiting in line.
I guess it is still manageable if you live in the middle of nowhere, USA, where there are more cows than people. LOL. Not everyone wants to live there.
yes they had a government(even though the people were suffering from UN/US economic sanctions n such) but yeah the war in Iraq was a pretty big mistake... but now that its all fucked up it would be an even greater mistake to leave, either don't go to war, if you do go to war just finish the work and get out then
look, alot of people are feeling the crunch of an economic downturn, and they are adjusting by spending less(mainly on imported goods), exports have risen and imports have dropped in the past year, people won't have as much income to blow on stuff they don't really need, thats why they are giving people the $600 to supplement the disposable income they have lost during the downturn until things even out(well thats the plan i guess, dont know if its gunna work) but if you guys truly think they are doing the wrong things, what actions would you suggest the government take to turn the economy around?
Interesting. How do you finish the war you got yourself into when you have a staggering national debt, in the midst of a housing, credit, financial crisis, oil prices rising, rising unemployment, and a weakening dollar? Please describe to us, what you mean by finish??
I thought the plan was to let them spend it, let it all slip through their fingers like sand in hopes to 'jump start' the American economy. How is it in the interest of the American people to get $600 cash - when most people would rather see their government invest it in other social programs?
