i've noticed something about joggers recently.they all have a miserable look on their faces. i can honestly say i have never seen a happy looking jogger. why is that ? why are'nt they no happy looking joggers ?
Joggers look unhappy when they are jogging because they are focused on what they are doing. Next lesson coming up:
"Looking happy" is a behavior that serves a social function. Jogging isn't really a social activity so there is no real reason to look happy. You don't usually look happy unless you are responding to social cues from others, I don't imagine.
when I used to jog I hated jogging in busy areas because it was my time to go inside my head and block out the outside world. I never really wanted to encounter anyone and if I did I definitely didn't feel like going out of my way to smile at them.
I find I'm not happy while exercising, but I feel a hell of a lot better when it's over. It's a great high. A high I need to start seeking more often than I do.
jogging is not a happy activity. it's the middle activity, between enjoying a wonderful walk or actually performing a real exerices called running
running is a strenuous. chances are youll see runners expressing that on their faces rather than joy...unless theyre crossing a finish line or something
The look on my face is usually influenced by what mile I'm on. I always smile and nod when I pass a fellow runner though. I haven't gone running in a while though....I should do that tomorrow.
I ran every day for a year or so and for the most part I didn't really enjoy the actual act of running but I loved the results so much I kept doing it. I always felt great afterwards, it helped me sleep at night and have energy during the day, and my legs looked fabulous. Plus it cleared my head. i should start running again, now that i think about it.
good point you bring up. its something i've noticed as well. not all, and not necessarily miserable, but yes many of them do appear to be having very little fun. i often make a conscious effort to remind myself to slightly smile when i run or bike. it's not faking it, its enjoying life.
