I love Nirvana's music simply because it's good, I know every single damn lyric to every song, I even sing along with the Strings Tribute that has no words...I mean don't judge it on the ability and Kurt's suicide, that shit doesnt matter what matters is that they were a band...and if they sucked as much as you think they did then WHY IN THE HELL WERE THEY SO FAMOUS!!!!?? Pisses me off how people do that crap, they have good songs and his guitar playing is farely good for someone who didn't really know how to play. I mean I dont know how crappy his guitar ability is because it mixes in with the other intruments and sounds awesome. His B-day is tomorrow anyways I want to honor him and his talent which he did have...so eff you who think he's stupid
Sorry but I had to comment on that.I really love Nirvana, but other "artists" are more famous than them and their songs suck.(you know very well who I'm talking about)
alright people, alright. i love nirvana as much as the rest, but shut up already. there's too many fuckin threads about these guys... how about some threads on other bands from that sound and era? like the jesus lizard, slint, shellac, big black, fugazi, helmet, meat puppets, sonic youth, mudhoney, etc. etc. etc...like, nirvana wasn't the only good band to come from that era.
ok, there's no such thing as too many threads about one certain thing (well, maybe there is) but i absolutely love nirvana. i'm listen to them right now.
Nirvana.... eh? aren't they a local band outta Aberdeen, WA? They played that stupid Halloween show back in 1988... I wonder what happened to them... not much, perhaps. When you're best song is about masturbation, you don't get very far. I thought they were a quirky-nice band though
When a band like Nirvana make it big, there are always those going on about bands that didn't make it so big. In this case bands such as Mudhoney, but the truth is these bands are vastly inferior to Nirvana. There are not alot of threads about these bands simply because they do not mean as much.

the only reason nirvana are worshipped more, is because they had that pop-sensibility about them, and the mainstream ate it up. they were over-exploited, and still are to this day. just because those other bands didn't write poppy songs, doesn't make them inferior. just because a band is more popular, doesn't make them superior to other bands. some of the greatest fucking bands in the world, are in the underground circuit and not many people know of them. i'm not denying nirvana's greatness. i'm just saying that there are alot of other bands from around that time that are just as great as nirvana are. alot of them were even around BEFORE nirvana were, and kurt looked up to them. their music may just be a little harder for some people to stomach, because it's not poppy and catchy. but, they still deserve the recognition, just like nirvana do. nirvana didn't invent that sound. they were just the first to reach the mainstream with it.
Alot of what you say is quite right, but it is still true that alot of people claim bands like Mudhoney are just as good as Nirvana simply because they weren't as successful commercially, but it is just not true. Nirvana were more real somehow.
I was obsessed with Nirvana for about a year, when I was 16 and full of the overrated, self-centered teenage angst. Then I realized that being angry at the world for no apparent reason was stupid. I still like Nirvana every now and then, I still wear my Kurt t-shirts, I still have the posters up on my walls, but I really can see how overrated they truly are. And now we have all of these kids who are obsessed with Nirvana's image and the image that is created when they wear the t-shirts and vomit useless trivia about Kurt. That irks me, because being the obsessed fan I was, I read a lot of biographies and articles on Kurt and I don't think he would have ever wanted it to blow up this badly. Yes...I just babbled myself into confusion. I like Nirvana, just not tons. I think that was the point I was trying to make...
They are not overrated. The teenage angst thing is a theme that many bands have cashed in on. But Nirvana rarely sang about angst if ever, infact there is alot of humour in some of the songs, he was a great artist in every sense, a real one and never moaned in his songs. He is dead because of a stomach ailment. They supposedly helped many people through angst, but this is something that was thrown onto them and most of their songs are bouncing joyous affairs that betray the image that has nothing to do with them. Also there are plenty of valid reasons to be angry at the world and one of them is also the reason people cling to Nirvana. Sadly it has been turned into a cliche by people pretending to be hard done by.
