    How do you think one reaches the state of nirvana (enlightenment - inner peace)?

    Like yin-yang, there has to be a balance in between the blue pill and the red pill.

    Blue pill - blissful ignorance of illusion
    Red pill - embracing the sometimes painful truth of reality

    There needs to be a balance in order to neither be overwhelmed with ignorance making you blind to the true nature of things nor overwhelmed with the truth that can cause you to live in suffering, with no turning back.

    Needs, wants, cravings, attachment to things are also what keeps you from being truly liberated in order to find the inner peace.
    As stated in Buddhism, in order to reach enlightenment you have to follow a moral practice and the first step is to have control over your Karma, and abstain yourself from actions that harm others.

    And that there are 5 precepts that you must follow:
    1. to abstain from killing any living creature;
    2. to abstain from stealing;
    3. to abstain from sexual misconduct;
    4. to abstain from false speech;
    5. to abstain from intoxicants.

    The five precepts are the essential minimum needed for moral conduct. They must be followed by anyone who wishes to practice Dhamma.

    Dhamma - cosmic law and order

    We need not wait until after death to experience heaven and hell; we can experience them within this life, within ourselves - depending on our actions and reactions.
    When we commit unwholesome actions we experience the hell-fire of craving and aversions. When we perform wholesome actions we experience the heaven of inner peace. Therefore It is not only for the benefit of others but for our own benefit, to avoid harm to ourselves, that we abstain from unwholesome words and deeds.

    oh so happy i can be first to post answer to people who ask question to post answer

    nirvana is state of exhaustion of phenomena - this esoteric teaching so maybe protectors of dharma eat my heart now - not likely - people so far from dharma a cow fucker can be practicing dharma better than actual so called dharmaskittle

    what was question - nirvana - which wheel turn you from? tantrics experience dharma somewhere around ten bhumi while five other bhumis

    sorry - guhyagarbha (bardo thodol) teaching of mandala of 100 peaceful, wrathful and 2 joyful deity ways of knowing buddha

    very hard study - please consider four pillars before you dope out on 5 yamas - you do not have to follow five yamas to make nirvana - but knowing how to cook great gets you in doors

    okay,, ta ta

    The Sankhara's or Vasanas or unconscious psychological tendencies are eliminated by Awareness or Mindfulness. It is the Sankhara's that is the cause of ignorance and bondage, and the complete elimination of them through constant Awareness or Mindfulness results in liberation or enlightenment.

    Abstinence from vices helps in the prevention of creation of karma or Vasanas anymore. Cultivation of virtues result in lesser thoughts and greater awareness , and therein lies the true reason for its cultivation, in Buddhism and all other religions.

    The singleminded practice of Awareness or Mindfulness itself can bring about enlightenment as seen in the case of Nisargadatta.

    I personally know of a man called Sunil Kumar who attained enlightenment in six months through the meticulous practice of Awareness.

    Mindfulness on its own generates bliss and peace.

    Nirvana is a scam for those who have never met an enlightened master or practiced deep meditation.

    All objective pleasures and sense-objects will give you some pleasure in the beginning which is inevitably followed by suffering and misery later on.

    If you contemplate on it, you can see that no sense-object can give you everlasting joy and happiness. There is a saturation factor as constant repetitive enjoyment of sense-pleasure results in boredom forcing one to seek other pleasures which has the same result.

    All sense-objects are also subject to seperation and deterioration including one's own body.

    So seeking everlasting pleasure in the senses forever is a futile pursuit.

    We are all climbing the same mountain sometimes meandering and bumbling down the road less traveled on our adventurous way to the top. As we climb higher we perceive more of the Big Picture including the self-evident fact that contentment comes at no cost and is when we no longer make distinctions between who we are and what we are doing. Our feet shape the path as the way shapes our feet and, in humble harmony with the way, the two become far greater than any mere sum of their parts. Thus, they say the Buddha once enlightened people in an audience merely by silently holding a flower on stage. Curiouser and curiouser said Alice, wonder remains the beginning of wisdom and enlightenment is self-organizing as if it emerged from the memory of God. The One Greater Truth being that it is the greater context of the truth that determines everything by merely asserting itself within the silent void.

    already nobody can talk on my level so i bring it down:
    nirvana means extinction
    you cannot end samskara if you have not extinguished it
    you cannot extinguish it if you have no karma to do so
    you must therefore find the fulcrum of nirvana
    lots of people talk but few people know
    find the fulcrum
    for yourself
    that is all

    It is what physicists call the lowest possible energy state of the complete system. A self-organizing system such as two pendulum clocks hung on a wall where the more humbly all three share their identities in harmonious agreement the more rapidly they can assume any higher energy state, while it always takes long to go from a higher energy state to a lower one. If I bump one clock the wall will help absorb some of the energy preventing them from going further out of sync and during an earth quake the two pendulums will swing wildly out of sync preserving themselves and the wall by absorbing some of the energy. Thus, nirvana displays the resilience, efficiency, and creativity of a self-organizing system which everything reflects in some way.

    oh thanks - i am full of shit - not having nirvana or extinction - age brings both - maybe not in proper order - tibetan buddhists do tantric buddhism and talk about how nirvana is a lowly and unimportant state - they also discuss 15 bhumis - five beyond the mahayanists - it pays to do some searching - some system may only supply a hammer and a frying pan while another has whole modern kitchen

    so if samsara cannot be extinguished then what is nirvana? and can nirvana and samsara coexist? some say yes - some say nirvana is simply this state which yoga calls samadhi which is where 3 is extinguished in 1 - three is knower, known and process of knowing, these three are one in samadhi - samadhi not so hard really unless people trying to make money off it

    so you have some samadhi and nirvana and then what? i tell you what, if you working for me, get your fucking ass to work, or if you're on vacation man then have a blast

    that is my wisdom for today - sorry to blow the concept i have developed for my being an unhelpful asshole and quite whacko to the mods and i do like a couple mods here though one needed some work

    okay - иметь хорошую ночь и не трахать слишком много - imet' khoroshuyu noch' i ne trakhat' slishkom mnogo

    Well, who really knows. From my experiences I believe nirvana to be a meditation, difficult to sustain in the form that it is generally perceived to be.. so for me it can stay there, like pulling the duvet over your body on a cold night. It remains a nice fantasy though :)

    I subscribe to advaita tantra, so in this sense phasing in and out of samsara or "nirvana" is the same thing, the movement of the tides.

    But lol, I think it's needed! Too many "happy" little buddhas repressing the humanity of their reality. There's a lot that goes into us, conceptualisation can distort the proportions of our emotional reactions.

    One of my favourite songs:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnYOKHq8OFU

    What are we gonna do, waitin' here
    Caught in a traffic jam
    Going nowhere soon
    See the rain has made a space for us to place our minds
    inside the sounds of winter, "ooh".

    buddhism has come very far - many greatly esoteric treatises have been translated - when i was a kid we had the dhammapada which was pretty fucking boring. however buddhism is a nondual teaching and you cannot have christian buddhism, hindu buddhism, muslim buddhism - the dualists are not part of the nondual system - hindu nondual still holds onto god, which is a separation, true nondual cannot have gods or devils good evil - there are ways to understand evil in terms of good - heroin, very good for man in battle with leg blown off and guts hanging out - too good for kids, leads to addiction and death - heroin is not evil - lack of wisdom is not evil either, just stupid. education could promote wisdom, but the thread of wisdom has been lost because people are not taught to sit and meditate. people are taught to crawl then walk then run, and to sit and sleep but never to sit and feel. feelings are the most subtle things and yet the most easily trampled. all humans know is kill kill kill. kill the feeling, kill the pain of feeling, kill your enemy, kill people with things, kill yourself. kill kill kill

    so then how to even talk about nirvana. first one must make very informed understanding of what nondual means - very good tract by ronald davidson on formation of tantra along the silk road in bc. also discusses where dualistic cults (religions) come from. samadhi and shamatha from any tradition is good basis for study - study without this meditation is just masturbation without good porn. nothing more boring than a buddhist who has teacher but no practice. while buddhist with much practice can be very fun.

    at any rate, it's like i always say but am never quoted on - if you're enlightened you should be pretty fucking funny, so lighten up

    these dualists squeeze their eyes shut and pray until they sweat and spazz out and speak gobbledygook and beat their chests, very poor technique for calm abiding, but then again not nondual practice so who cares - just if they pray like that then watch out when they go to battle
