Nijmegen is the Alternativ (hippy) capital of holland.

Amsterdam is full, there is no movement anymore. Everithing in amsterdam is about monny. O.k. that is blak - white. But it is true.

 

Perhaps it's getting too ''Americanised'', sadly.

for as far as I know is Nijmegen a pretty cool place.
I know the university kicks ass.
it's all pretty and cute and looks more like a "learning community" than a university.
so that's awesome.

I don't really know about the rest of the city. I did see a lot of alternative people there last time I was there.. but I can't really make an oppinion on that over a one-time-view

Exactly what the word says, turning more and more like America. Taking over anything American.

 

I hope that people who don't live in America understand that many, if not the majority, of Americans cherish all other country's heritage, history and culture.

Please don't allow your countries to become more "Americanized". I can guarantee you we aren't coming to A'Dam to eat at a McDonalds!

However, if you really think about it, our country was "Europeanized" some 500 years ago to the great detriment of Native Americans and their heritage and culture.

i think what you hate is consumerism, where what the consumer wants or thinks he/she wants is the overriding force behind all our endeavors.
we think we want suvs and nikes and cheap fast food and 24/7 stores but in reality we end up working 12 hour shifts, commuting an hour to get to work, making that dough so we can have all that cool stuff but then we dont have the time to enjoy it at all. so we are unhappy, and what could possibly solve that we wonder. well shit, an ipod will make me happy! or a cell phone or.... and we end up working and working and working.
