I have always found it interesting how some people acquire nicknames. I myself have never had one for some reason, I guess I'm just boring or something. Any way, here is a list of some of the nicknames of people I know, or have known at one time....all of them I can think of at the moment anyway. Big Eye Bortz Brass Burr Head Buzzy Chipmunk Choke'um Chow Crazy George Dallas Dead Cat Deek Funky Good Time Charlie Hunky Iron City Jay the Hippie Keys Little O Philly Joe Pollock The Roach Shotgun Sunshine Snuffy Spider Stick Stuck Turk Willie the Worm The Wizard Wolfman Zum Anyone have any interesting ones?
are stick and stuck two different people? i can't think of a single nicknamed person i know. i wonder if it's a generational thing?
Big Dog I wish it was a nickname that was given to me by women, but it was the nickname given to me on one of my youth baseball teams when I was pretty tall and built for my age.
Most big people, like tall.. Or big.. I call Big Fella or Big Nuts. Though I'm not sure of their testicle size, they just get that name.
I've had a few. Some people used to call me 'one hit' because I was known for always having a 1 hitter or dugout on my person. When I was in college friends called me 'crazy legs' for the way I dance.
A friend from high school ended up involved with bikers and her nick name was pokey. We all knew why and it while fitting was a bit offensive to hear her referred to that way. The nickname stuck with her for the rest of her life as she did stay in the same lifestyle . She has since passed away.
no nicknames here...all friends/family/customers etc always use my regular name...99% use the short version ...weird people tend to use the long version
A lot of people call me "Hey you!" or "Hey man" or "You" or "Man" or "Manchild" or "Butterface"... do those count? It's usually strangers calling me that though...
i think nick names exist because the dominant culture does this really dumb thing of naming everyone after someone else, so if it wasn't for them, there'd be so few names, each of them would apply to more people then there even should be of us all together. the problem is though, that people still have to give them to each other, and the problem with that is having to be around other people in order for them to do so. which is ok for people who like that, which supposedly humans are supposed to. which is one of the ways in which i'm perhaps not entirely human. which sort of makes nicknames something i haven't done much aquiring of, or even remembering of, for rather a long time. i remeber when i was in school there was a lorangatang, there were a few who called me teallywheelie, which is odd, becuause i was one of the few kids who even their parents didn't own a car, and i wasn't 'peligic either. when i was at bed spring acres i was sometimes called the mad proffessor. this i suspect of having more to do with my manor of speaking, then any atribution of knowledge or wisedom. now i know the stainless steel rat was sometimes known as slipery jim, as that was part of his name; james bolivar degrizz, but that is a fictional character from a series of stories. my father was known by everyone as shorty. though he wasn't the only one who was. there was also a shorty dawz. that was the other shorty. but my dad who was a speaker to vapour dragons (railroad telegrapher for those of a less fantastic bent) and also enough greg areas for all of us, was shorty teall. even i called him that. ah geeno valeer, that was another one i remember now from grade school and high school in colfax california growing up. there was a girl who's nickname was buckles, though i don't think i knew that at the time. oh and there was another one named gator, that was in the seventies when i worked at a little resteraunt in auburn california. there was another one who went by short-stack. somewhat descriptive of her physical attributes i suppose. she was one of the singers in butcher knife joe and the forest hill billies, a band from forest hill california.
