So the NHS needs to find bit coins? And it's just had a rehaul of its security of patients details! Well done! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39899646
How pathetic a country we are when we can't treat people in hospital because a computer system has gone down.
When it comes to the advances and advantages of IT, I am reminded of Scottys' words from 'Search for Spock':- "The more they overthink the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain."
Warnings of that particular email have been circulated for a year or more! Why the hell did someone open it?
From the Guardian Last December, it emerged that 90% of NHS computers still run on Windows XP, two and a half years after Microsoft stopped supporting the operating system. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2017/may/12/hospitals-across-england-hit-by-large-scale-cyber-attack I'm assuming those aren't computers connected to the internet - but who knows?
NHS computers probably should be wired up through a separate intranet, or at least there should be/should have been an isolated system for the medical stuff and an internetty one for the staff to check their facebook when they are on a break. There have been a few instances of medical files being hacked in to over the past few years. I suppose it's impossible to be 100% foolproof even on an intranet, especially when the NSA are punting out malware without telling anyone.
A&E departments are asking emergency patients to bring details of medications they are on with them, presumably to avoid contraindications. Cannabis has no contraindications and is a more effective medicine for many things that people should be taking as an alternative to the pharmaceutical crap we get prescribed. Now the computer system has gone down, due to ineptness on the part of the same system that prohibits people from self medicating with cannabis, and now the system doesn't know how to remedy the mess it is in, and is potentially unable to effectively help people with medical conditions. Who still has faith in the system?
What a truly inept shower of tory bastards this lot are. They need to go, 7 years ago! http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/tories-cut-security-support-outdated-10413160
If they win the election, I think we can kiss bye bye to the NHS as we've known it. Their goal is clearly to run it down to a state of dysfunction when they'll be able to say it's 'failed' and thus justify a big sell off to their corporate chums. The Americans spend about 5 times as much per person on healthcare than the UK, but the outcomes are way down the ratings. Tory greed means they don't care about that, all they want is to suck up more of our money. Partly it's driven by their anti-socialist ideology, but mainly they see a big pot of money and want to grab it.
Here's me thinking this was a worldwide attack affecting nearly a hundred countries and 750'000 systems including Renault and Fed ex !! But the usual suspects come on here to Blame the Tories :bigcry: Give It a break guys you are Beginning to look Stupid ( just saying )
Yes Attack came about from dumbass employees being tricked by phishing emails Nothing to do with IT budgets, and its not like MPs have direct control over that
Also, the usual Wikileaks bullshit Oh, yeah lets take this opportunity to take a stab at the US government, in this case the NSA
In terms of the attack, they were warned that XP is no longer secure online. They obviously chose to ignore it. Presumably because they don't want to spend money on decent functional IT systems. In their eyes it's money better given away in tax breaks for corporations. As for the rest of it, let's wait and see how the NHS will look after another 5 years of your buddies, assuming they win.
According to Amber Fudd the blame lies with the NHS.. and not the tories for stripping funding to the NHS. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-39906019
Horrible. People suffered because of this attack. I didn't read all the posts so I don't know if they already have, but I hope they catch whoever is doing this.
I suspect it may be a deliberate attempt to make the tories look bad in the run up to the election, which to be fair is what they are, bad. In any case, they stripped funding from the NHS and in particular funding to replace the old computer system and update it so it was more secure, so if this lowers their rating for the forthcoming election then it's everything the scum deserve.
