#1-A large percentage of americans are said to believe in god. A large percentage of politicians are afraid that if they admit that MJ has legitimate uses--they will not get that gravy job of sucking on the tit of the taxpayer dollar because the religious folks would vote against them. The usual hypocrisy, as I'm sure most who vote against legalization have tried it themselves.

#2-Those who need workers on the zombie treadmills can't have people off enjoying themselves giggling in the woods or developing any critical thinking skills on issues that may be completely false, but are necessary to continue the facade.
