I assume there is a conspiracy here. What is it?

I read that it was a gas leak (which could've been prevented) so I think the conspiracy was laziness and incompetence.

It's funny, as soon as I saw the news a thought occurred to me in the back of my mind: "I wonder what conspiracy theory will grow from this". Hopefully none.

lol It's the Troubles! (If you've seen the show Haven, the supernatural "Troubles" are always blamed on gas leaks.)

    -very true

    ---------------
An explosion to take out a old blg on 116th & park- - ?? Doesnt need to much of a conspiracy- - -That area of Spanish Harlem is pretty beat up. Even with the renovation of some of the area around 125th and the fairly new L- (Metro North) stop.
Na,,it was just 2 old buildings ..with a leaking gas line..To be sure..if this were 2 blgs 50 blocks south on Park Ave..they would've checked the smell of gas a Helluva lot faster.
That area isnt high priority....but conspiracy...no way

Looks like just another gas explosion. However, if you watched the coverage from that morning, clearly the media was trying to draw parallels to 9/11, which is pretty pathetic and lame. The media sensationalizes anything it can get its hands on, and in this case it appears the only conspiracy theorists are the media.

on the radio that morning, they broke in for emergency coverage, which was already broke in for weather coverage, with every fifteen minuts or so going back to the actual herman cain show for like a minute, then a commercial, then the breaking news being interrupted by more breaking news.

seriously, I saw that it was snowing and there was no need for the sensationalism of the fucking explosion.

Yeah, I agree with what pr said in post #8.

I mean, yea, sad that there was a gas leak and explosion and a couple people died. But from what they were showing on the news...and how for a long time I kept hearing them say it was an explosion without mentioning the gas leak (which I heard mentioned about 20 mins later)... well, you'd think gas leaks/explosions never happen.
Within the last year a whole family (bunch of kids, two parents, grandparent) were all killed around here because their house had a gas leak and exploded while they were sleeping. Sucks but I didn't see that on national media.

there was a dude who came home from vacation, went to light his pilot light on his furnace and the whole house exploded.. News stories claimed methlab immediately.. that poor guy was just trying to exist and all of a sudden he's dayton's new failed heisenberg for a few days, because of course nobody saw nor did they promote the follow up story telling about how they jumped the gun and retracting their statements. yea nobody saw that.

The real story is how the house completely and violently exploded around him while he stood there relatively unscathed. That should have been the real sotry

Even on the dutch news. Ridicilous media attention indeed. I guess there never happens anything like this elsewhere in the world (or is the rest of the world just less important) :mickey:

    That's a sad story, Death.

And anyways.... yea, I'm sure everyone saw it because it wasn't far from where 9/11 happened and it was a chance not only to try to draw parallels to the two incidents but also a chance to showcase the NYFD.

Obviously the electric company engineered the whole thing to incite fear and distrust in natural gas. Duh.

Anything that happens in NYC is gonna be big news...especially anything involving explosions after 9/11. If it had happened anywhere else u woulda never heard about it but gas explosions do happen sometimes. At first they thought it could have been terrorism.

Apparently it was so powerful it could be felt and even blew out windows in buildings 3 blocks away.

Strange coincidence is they came to my building the same day to work on a gas line and had to shut off the gas for several hours.

This was like 60 blocks downtown from me and all the way crosstown...but I did think about it (that it coulda happened to me) and that would not be my choice of way to die....being engulfed in flames and then possibly still alive long enough to be crushed by collapsed concrete and brick and shit.

I've heard when someone burns to death first they scream till all the air is out of their lungs and then inhale the flames and burn from the outside and inside....ughhhh :/
