It's my own fault I I tell myself, as the torrent of ill-informed mental sewage slowly fills my bedroom I clicked on a thread about gay rights.

Karen--I hope you know that my post 74 was directed at the illustrious poster of right wing rhetoric.

What I meant was that such racist, homophobic attitudes can be qualified as a sickness of the mind.

    This.

And it was a quite a bit easier to change stairways to wheelchair ramps for the ADA act. But to redo all the plumbing and extensive remodeling would be more trouble than it's worth for such places.

Ringo Starr is the latest concert cancellation, and the porn site XHamster is suspending all accounts from NC. I've lost two more out of state business accounts. In response to my protests about group punishment, one business owner harshly put it, "I have no problem with punishing North Carolina liberals, because you've been ineffective. It's your job to win, not just do your best."

Most places here have the third one as well, but not everywhere. Sometimes there is just a handicapped stall inside each washroom. Wait.... is every public washroom in australia a full sized bathroom and not just a room full of stalls and a row of sinks sometimes?

I like Cyndi Lauper's approach a lot better. She plans to use her next NC concert as an opportunity to publicly speak out against the new law, and to give encouragement to everyone here who is fighting against it. She says all the profits from that concert will be donated to groups that are actively working to repeal the law.

So far, she's the only liberal-minded celebrity to say anything about this controversy that I completely agree with.

Aw what a poor naive person to think liberals have any say at all in a conservative southern state.

The GOP currently has a filibuster-proof and veto-proof majority in both state houses and on every legislative committee, so there's no reason at all for any of the Democrats to ever show up. I've heard that when the minority leader asks the majority leader what's on the schedule for the next day, they're often told, "It's none of your business." There are protests at the legislative building every week. The Republicans laugh at them, enjoying the visible evidence that they're making liberals miserable. Black leaders in particular have blasted the GOP in Raleigh for failing to look after the interests of all the state's residents. The only response they ever get is, "We're accountable only to the conservatives who put us in office." Many hundreds of protesters have been arrested over the past two years.

But... who would have expected Cyndi Lauper to be the voice of reason on any serious issue? I'm slightly less surprised than most people because of seeing her a few years ago on a reality show where she demonstrated a surprising amount of common sense in terms of being able to get things done. It didn't match her public image, which I suspect is mostly fake. She knows as I do that you tend to get more accomplished on any issue if you show up and become actively engaged. Untargeted boycotts mostly just make participants feel better about themselves. The NCGOP wouldn't want Bruce Springsteen (or any other high profile liberal from out of state) hanging around here anyway.

I am a student at Vanderbilt in Nashville, TN. Last night, I wrote an op-ed for a Vanderbilt publication against HB 1840. It's such a dangerous bill and I'm still trying to better understand the most effective ways we can try and persuade Haslam to veto it (as people have said, he's only vetoed a couple of bills in his term and getting him to do so again will be difficult) but for now, I would really appreciate anyone willing to read/share my article and give me advice on other steps I can take to protest this bill and the new bathroom law being proposed in TN. Cirque du Soleil is the latest to jump on the bandwagon of anti-NC political correctness, cancelling their Greensboro show. They have a large following in the local LGBT community, which has been thrown under the bus to please their LGBT fans in the other 49 states.

The national boycott of Mississippi has been less dramatic, because of their much more limited economic and cultural linkage to the rest of America. They don't even have a large indoor entertainment venue. Their smaller one in the capital city of Jackson is used mostly for country music, and the Nashville establishment is not speaking out on the state's new law.

Mississippi will be happy with Bobby-Jo on the banjo and Bubba on the Jews Harp.
They don't need some new-fangled stuff from the outside world.

Ringo Starr canceled his gig in NC over this. Yet he has no problem touring in concerts through Russia, a country that considers homosexuality a mental illness and gay people are arrested for protesting.

Yeah, but that's different. This is about where people are allowed to piss... [/sarcasm]

Why are Republicans so worried about where people piss? Don't they have more important issues to deal with?

NC governor Pat McCrory is going to be on Meet the Press, Sunday on NBC. I hope Chuck Todd shows him to be the delusional political hack that he is.

You can't just use words like militant extremist. They mean things. militant meaning, using aggressive supporting a cause including the use of violence. Extremist meaning one who holds extreme views. Since equal rights movements are neither blowing up CPAC meetings, and supported by a majority of Americans, it's neither of those things.

Juedo-Christian Principles on the other hand, is a non-specific buzzword.

Your second paragraph makes less sense. LGBT people aren't allowed to have sex in public under any civil right protection that been passed or even proposed anywhere. So the S&M comparison isn't neither valid or coherent.

Overall your post is a misinformed and misspelled rant, cobwebbed together by someone with most opinions on the issue than perspective. Like a cat discussing dogs rights.

Yeah, he was there trying to obfuscate the fact that NC is out of sinc with the civilized world. He said it was the liberals in Charlotte who caused all the problem because they tried to implement civil rights and fair minimum pay for its citizens and this had to be stopped.
