It's a pine tree. It looks thin probably because it was young and because it is growing on thin dirt on rock. Here is the ground that it is growing on (somewhere around where it is growing).
Thank you Aerianne. I'm going to slowly put more up. It's slow going on my phone. I'll try to figure a faster way to upload.
Very cool pic, Mally. So is the one of the ship. All the pics that everyone took are beautiful. Here are a few that I took of our lake. I was telling you that the colours there can get pretty amazing. That last pic was a scene fantastic to behold. Looked like the sky was on fire. A bunch of us were standing there looking at it that night, just in awe of it right before us like that.
I love moss and ferns! The dogs have trampled many of the ferns I'd had for years. My fist husband dug them in the woods near the creek and planted them in the natural area in front of the house. Drought doesn't help the shade plants either. I've just put a tiny little beat up remnant of fern in a pot that I will try to nurse over the winter. I did that with the one remaining hosta and it's grown alot in the pot this summer. My mom called this Red Soldier Moss. I think it's a lichen. This isn't my pic but it's pretty...
We've got so many acorns! I started wondering about acorn folklore. Acorns also have numerous non magickal uses. Soaking the caps in iron rich water will yield a black dye for baskets or yarn or fabric. Their medicinal properties are also extremely useful. Boiling the husks to make a strong tea makes a great skin wash for skin problems or a gargle for mouth problems. A second or third boiling of the hulls will yield a tea that is a good enema for hemorrhoids or can be used internally to treat gastrointestinal bleeding. Acorns also are good for culinary purposes. The inside fruit can be soaked in running water and then ground into flour to make cakes that are extremely nutritious and make good survival food. http://stagandeagle.wordpress.com/2011/02/12/acorns-lore-and-uses/
Cool sandstone pics, Expanse! I commiserate on the moon pictures. That's how the moon looks taken with my cell phone. It's hard to get good moon pics. I have an SLR but even that isn't enough without a decent telephoto lens. This is the best I could capture with my 55mm lens. supermoon on Aug 9th half moon on Sep 4th
Lovely moon pics. I've never attempted to take my own pics of the moon...yet, but am getting inspired with some fun ideas:
