On the note of spirituality forums. Why not a spirituality and religion sub forum and also a Wellbeing and health subforum?

Here's an idea! We could put a bulletin on the top of the UK forum as to what dates are coming up. That way, we don't have another bulky title on the sub-forum list. So instead, there could be a noticable notice on the main UK board. And instead of having those icons next to the sub-forums, to say if they're empty or not, we could just get rid of those icons. That way, people arn't discouraged by going on an empty forum, because alot of people are and they miss out on some other great posts in it.

I think perhaps two new subforums would be a bit too much at this stage. When the forum gets more active, and when more members come in, that might be the time to consider it. Generally, because religious issues, like political issues, are such hot potatoes and big topics for debate, the main forum seems the best place for giving them top card billing. However, personal spirituality, in the context of lifestyle and alternative ways of living, might give a different angle to it....

Hmm, I'd be hesistant to write parties and protests off just yet. It used to be one of the most active forums when Claire was here putting a lot of time and energy into it. Claire said she's coming back in the new year, so I'm hoping it can again. Also, it allows for the discussion of each individual event without having an endless list of stickies. This might be one to review later though....

Ahh! Will have a think about that. The calendar would be a pretty cool idea if more people used it. But if they don't, it may be unused space on the page. However, there is the possibility that we'll be getting a new look for the new year, hopefully integrating all the features and forums in a more streamlined manner. Kind of like a separate landing pad for the UK Community. I'm discussing this with Skip at the moment. Before any changes like that go ahead though, I'm thinking we should have a test page that everyone can view and decide if they like or not first....

hm part of me feels that these areas are already covered on the board elsewhere...i mean, theoretically we could duplicate any number of forums and our community spirit would get lost...i dont see any reason if people have needs for these subjects, not to go out on the main forum...theyre not essentially uk significant topics.

    just my thoughts

ummm i'm not from uk so feel free to totaly discount what i have to say
but seems to me your all talkin about duplicating all that hipforums has to offer..relationships parenting drugs spirituality. whatever under the uk subforum
and whats the point in that in being so seperatist?
when ya have patrenting issues, why not discuss it in a forum that has the benifit of parents all over the world
    same with drugs and spirituality
since when is there a uk specific spirituality
i originaly loved the idea of the pure spirituality subforum but at the time was under the impression it would be a part of the normal philodsophy and religion or something, not a uk specifuc one
hipforums is a global community, uk is 1 section of the global why arent there forums like the uk one for every nation as well as ones for every indeginouse tribe

uk forums great for discissing uk specific issues yes, but all these subforums youyr talking about belong within the global realm and most are complete duplicates of existing forums
your only gonna get a small percentage of the possible traffic by seperating it into a uk specifuc spiritual forum when theres a need for a spirituality forum for all of hipforums

maybe its time to rejoin the rest of the world...or, create forums for every other country

It is a valid point. However, what distinguishes us is not a nationalistic sense that we should be separate. Certainly I'm very anti-nationalistic. One people, one world, that's me. But in the context of this forum, we are unique in that we constitute a very real community. One that exists both online and offline in a sense that is not present in the rest of Hipforums. It's not a closed border policy. Americans like yourself have always been welcome. However our corner of Hipforums is very different. It has a whole different atmosphere. While I find many forums here quite daunting, very large, and in many cases dominated by competing egos and petty squabbling, this forum has a distinct community atmosphere that anyone cna enjoy. It's smaller, closer and friendlier. Compare, for example, the difference between UK Randomness and Random Thoughts. That atmosphere is then applied to any subforums here. Moreover, since the idea was for a cultural/lifestyle forum, it would be specifically relevant to the British context.

If there's a need, then why not ... I think Sal's right that this corner of hipforums has its own character and always has had. The other forums as well as being bigger and busier do tend to be overwhelmingly American-populated so there's no place for discussing UK-specific issues. In the case of more universal issues I will venture out into the wider forums and there's probably no need to replicate coverage of those topics which have a universal appeal and where there's no UK-specific aspect.

I quite like the idea of combining these things into one forum, that's the one thing that's lacking from this community, a place to help each other with er, 'lifestyle issues'. Perhaps all these things including drugs and spirituality being lumped together into one might be a bit much though? Not sure about a name, how about the UK Hippy forum? Er, maybe not:D:tongue:

'The Campfire' is probably quite a good suggestion, given that
"The Bobby Gillespie Memorial Fundraiser Forum" probably won't, for some reason, get much support:confused::(

Maybe we should just merge the Us and British or have a Welsh, Scottish and Ireland forum:?

Maybe not, eh John. As much as Blair would like Britain to be merged with the US, I don't think I'd like to see that happen here. :jester: Dilute or divide the community? Can't see that being helpful....

I think a British poet section would be good. As we Brits have a lot of good poets from Chaucer to Shelly. This would enable Brits to unleash their poetic side. We can then compare with some of the US poems:)?

Luke is hoping to give new direction to the Arts and Crafts forum, bringing in discussion of the great works as well as original work. :)
