Hello everyone! I have lurked here for a long time but never registered. I am a 28 yr old guy trapped in a small town in Alabama. I just lost my job and have WAY too much time on my hands and thought I could use this time to maybe connect with like minded individuals since there are few here where I live. It really sucks for me not having much to do.

Anybody else else here in the same situation? What do you guys do for fun alone?

The same sites I usually visit have gotten old and I have to find something to do before I lose my mind. Some of my interests are:

Music - I started off on heavy metal but here lately I have been enjoying some EDM. My favorite band is Tool. Those guys have helped me through some hard times and they go deeper than anybody else I have listened to. I like dubstep and electro house. I try my best to produce electronic music too, I suck at it but getting better and it is nice to have a creative outlet. I need to let my throat chakra sing!

Drugs - Sadly this is a vice for me. Had somewhat of a pain pill problem when I had money. Now I drink a lot and smoke weed. I used to enjoy psychedelics and have done pretty much every research chemical under the sun, but here lately just haven't felt up to it. Too much going on to fully surrender. I wish I could get to a point in my life where I was happy enough to not need anything to get by.

Spirituality - I do not ascribe to a particular religion, in fact Christianity and most mainstream religions make me uneasy. Too much brainwashing going on there. Ever seen Jesus Camp? That is some scary shit. Philosophy is a big interest of mine. I love Nietzche, so much more than arguements against religion. I enjoy thinking about those things that makes your brain feel like it is going to explode.

Education: I am a college student that has not decided on a major two years into it. It is a descision I have to make soon, my basics are done. I like to study history and people and I am good with computers. I would kind of like to study anthropology but to do anything in that field you need a PHD and I just don't know if I am smart enough to come up with original research. My other options are Psychology (Carl Jung's ideas fascinate me) and Computer Science (the easy out, I know I can make money doing this).

OK, I'm rambling. I usually have anxiety talking to people but I am drunk so we'll see how this goes.

Except for the drug use and job situation and age, I can relate to almost all of what you posted. Welcome to hf. I hope you find employment and are able to decide your course of study soon.

    Hello and welcome :).

I'm pleased you joined and hope to see you around the forum.

Hope this place becomes what you are looking for.

And thanks for taking the time properly introduce yourself.

Above sounds like me before I made my decision on what to study professionally. I was a natural at computers (tho only had an interest in the arty and software development side). I also have always been fond of history and people related subjects such as Sociology.

Hopefully you will find time to make a decision that you will be most happy with. You shouldn't feel rushed :).

Also I am very much into music also. Must add that grunge bands that were active during Tool's early period probably helped strengthen me most. Though ive not really heard much of Tool's music. It's on my to do list.
