What's the issue with T-gel? It's fantastic stuff, in my books. Keeps the dandruff away, tightens dreads like an sob... Unless you're one of those 'SLS is evil' folk, I see no reason to not get it. Some people think it's really pricey but I can stretch a bottle for most of year. And for the dandruff control it gives, it's well worth it, for me. My scalp hated liquid Broners. No matter how diluted, it always felt like residue.
Yup, classic infomercial, but HONEST. I finally bought a tam today just to hide the top of my head. Knotty frizzy crazy mess I can do- Chunky white flakiness, no. Thank you all for your support, it's good to know there are easy fixes for dreads, I've grown quite attached and really don't wanna "F" them up. lol I still forgot to stop at shoprite though, duh
Welcome. =) I think you've received a lot of conflicting info on here. For what it's worth, I wouldn't use the bar directly on your hair... I would lather it on your hand and hten use your hadn to get the soap on your dreads and on your scalp. If you use the bar directly, you will likely end up with too much on your scalp. The bar of KB I had got soft quickly when wet and if I were to just use it directly on my head, it left a big goooey mess that was almost impossible to wash off.... I do not have dandruff but I seem to get a sludge that turns white and flaky sometimes. The only thing that has owrked for me is baking soda and water. I read that your scalp was really greasy, so I'm not sure if it would necessarily be dandruff... I always associated that iwth a dry scalp, not greasy. My hair/scalp is really greasy too. UGH! It's slowed down a lot now that I've had my dreads for 7 months... I can go much longer between washing now. Also, tea tree oil really dries things out, so make sure you are only using a few drops if you continue to use it and your scalp is dry. I hope I didn't confuse you more, just trying ot share what I have found out myself.
Want some more confusion? There is such a thing as 'wet' dandruff. Maybe I should look into dermatology. It's kinda neat.
thats one thing i like about that bar, it doesnt get that gunky soft shit that a lot of bars get. it stays pretty hard and seems to last pretty long. i didnt like the kboy shit either, except for the smells. i just keep the bar in a little travel box and make sure it doesnt get put away with a bunch of lathery shit all over it and it tends to stay pretty solid
Sorry haven't responded in a bit but my oldest got friggin MRSA on her foot so it's been psychotic here lately. So anyway I washed my hair like 5 days ago - forgot to buy diff soap so I used bak soda and hair still felt greasy so I washed again w/ plain baby shampoo. OMG was my hair DRY!! I ended up with a HUGE rootballey MESS on top of my head and spent like an hour ripping dreads apart. On the bright side though- dandruff is gone and my dreads are freakin TIGHT. I can actually say I have had "good" hair days all week. LOL Pix do not show just HOW BAD my head was really 1 GIANT knot but here they are anyways
Making knots already! I read through the thread and I would suggest washing with cold water, if you can stand it. I was prone to dandruff even before I had dreads, Cold water made things better, not 100%...but 90% is better that nothing. I noticed that I only get dandruff after the first 1 or 2 days after washing with soap. Try cutting back on the frequency of soap washes. I can now go a about a month without needing to wash with soap (based on smell and oil), so long as I scrub my scalp every day with just plain old tap water. eace: edit: for the record, I use Dr.Bronners Organic Lavender Hemp Pure Castile Liquid Soap, Diluted 12-1.
Oooooooooh cold water is a no-go, I know a couple of you have recommended it but unh uh. I Despise cold, I put on a sweatshirt for anything under 70 degrees F. Brrrrr no can't do it. IDK I'll figure it out eventually, the flakies haven't come back yet but I haven't used Bronner's since either so maybe it was just residue/buildup. I have found bronner's makes my skin break out too so i think I'm aboot dun with that. whatever. I actually dyed my hair specially for dreads, it has orange then red random streaks that I figured would look way cool all twistied/ knotted up but the color is fadin fast so it may not even last that long. I don't like my natural color, looks dirty all the time no matter what so I will probly be dying again soon, hopefully the roots will take this time.
Yeah, I felt that way the day after I washed with Dish Soap... I wanted to shave my hair off it felt so bad. lol
