So I heard there was just a new drug released, sofosbuvir, a nucleotide inhibitor for the Hep C virus. $1000 bucks per pill and I believe it either reduces the time it takes to treat the disease, or it just makes every genotype of Hep C much more likely to be treated. I was reading about the treatment for the disease, and how it can really break you at the bank and that the treatment is actually WAY more horrible than the disease itself. Since the disease does virtually nothing to most people for most of their lives. Its a "silent killer" and you only get symptoms when your on the verge of death anyway. Plus it doesnt spread sexually, unless your doing risky things. It also effects everyone different, some can go through their entire lives and die of something else before it causes cirrhosis or cancer.
Does anyone currently use this drug? I hear you still are supposed to continue using ribavirin and pegylated interferon along with this new drug. Whats treatment like? Reason im wanting to know is because im around month six after being tested for hepatitis C. Got hit by a needle at work, which was stuck into someone who was hepatitis C positive before it hit me. Been anxious for awhile, but now that this drug has come out and im on workman's comp and all ive calmed down quite a bit. Still scared as to how intense the treatment could be if I am positive.
And damn, does my arm hurt where the blood was drawn.. Ive had many blood draws but this one is strange. Ill wake up and its real sore in the area after i get up and move it. Pain travels up into my bicep like its moving up a vein. Did the nurse strike a valve? What a bitch!
