I live in New England and it's a pretty nice place to be, aside from the hard winters. I've never been to old England, outside of the Heathrow airport. I had a really good yogurt parfait at that airport, inside of a sushi restaurant.

Great Britain is the big British Islands name. So Scotland was always part of Great Britain, despite having an on-again off-again thing with England.

Do they have "dooryards" in Old England? I've never heard that term outside places like Maine and New Hampshire. It means front yard by the way...
