Well, Bibi has some trouble with the international community now! The UN voted in November to recognize Palestine as a independent State. So Bibi enacted a plan for mass building on occupied territories. just days ago the UN Security Counsel introduced a resolution that demanded an end to all settlement activity and that designated all the land that Israel captured from Jordan in the 1967 war, which includes the Temple Mount and the Western Wall, as “occupied Palestinian territory.” And it passed. The vote on it will be in three weeks. The US abstained from voting, which has Bibi pissed as hell. I am personally elated that maybe , finally, the Israeli WEALTHY right wing religious fanatics, will be diminished and that a two state solution will become more possible.

This shit has been going on for my entire life. So what's the solution? Nobody in the Arab world wants to take in the Palestinians, who were nomadic outcasts for centuries. But they sure seem to love holding them up as an "example" of the failings of the Israelis. It's like getting paid opposition, for free. Arafat was SO close to a solution and then abruptly turned his back on negotiations and let it all go to hell again.

At the root of this is the idea that people "deserve" a certain plot of land. Preposterous when you consider the reality, nobody keeps territory they can't defend. It really is that simple. And blowing up pizza parlors, launching rockets from schools and using children as human shields really doesn't create sympathy for anyone's "cause".

Backing Israel up against a wall like this, an expected parting shot from Obama, gives them what choice? Plow the Palestinians under, or flee? It's all so convoluted and the same arguments I hear today I heard in the 70s. The exact same shit, as if nobody has grown up at all.

Personally, I don't understand why Israel wants to stay in such a shitty neighborhood. They can afford to purchase any number of better places to live, well away from their enemies. But, like my in-laws who watched their neighborhood turn into heroin central you have to eventually abandon that "nobody is gonna run me off my land" bullshit. Equally I fail to see why the Palestinians stay in Gaza and the West Bank when both are total shit holes where you can barely grow anything.

I know plenty here may barrage me with a rehashing of the same bullshit arguments I have been hearing for decades, so please, spare us all. Let's try to discuss this on merits. And no, I do not believe God has any genuine interest in real estate deals. I don't think God cares one whit who lives where on this planet. But taking human life in the name of any God is the ultimate act of criminal arrogance. Only a God should have any say in when a life ends. Not some loser with a knife/gun/bomb.

Hmm. Sometimes I don't even think god even has that right to end a life.

I know, right? Why don't the Palestinians just go back home where they belong?

I recall reading something about Palestinians growing plenty.

Yeah, I just looked it up. They were definitely growing stuff.

Read why Israeli soldiers have been protesting the insane occupation of Palestinian villages and one might come away with a different perspective.

One big country: Israelistine. For jews, palestines and everybody else. If some are irrational/extreme in their dissatisfaction that its not all for their own kind of people: deal with them appropriately. Of course this is easily said by outsiders. The solution can only come if the israelis and palestines themselves want it and strive for it.

It's the right of the occupied to resist the occupiers. In what world is it the responsibility of the occupied to ensure the security of the occupiers?

Bit simplistic. There have been some years of peace too :p ;)
Anyway, if it was only about the folks who want to fight Id perhaps say 'let them' as well. Unfortunately other palestines and israelis get involved too.
Imo your post makes perfectly clear why the solution does not lie with any if us.

Israeli spokesperson admitted that Israel broke a ceasefire with Hamas, yet claims that Israel wants peace. A little twisted there . . .

And even beyond that, Israel's position is: We're going to build settlements on your territory in contravention of International law, and don't you dare fight it or we'll kick the shit out of you. Charming . . .

The idea that the UN represents the world is propaganda. The US pays half the bills for the UN which is merely the complaint department and propaganda machine for the US empire which has a military equal to the next six or seven largest in the world combined. Right wingers in the US have been complaining for years that we should stop funding this particular farce and rely more on just cracking down on the natives when they get out of hand, but that's what the Roman empire did with Jesus and look how that turned out.

Israel has no choice but to stop the Palestinians from occupying the heights and bombarding them from above. These people dress their little kids up as suicide bombers complete with mock explosive vests and give them symbolic knives and AKs for their birthday. Its the Hatfields and the McCoys in the desert and the only reason the US supports Israel so strongly is because everyone there hates them ensuring Israel will inevitably support whatever the US wants short of committing suicide like allowing the Palestinians to occupy the heights. The UN complaining is professional wrestling smack talk designed to make people think that something is actually changing for the better.

So, an occupied people don't have a right to resist an occupier who is stealing their land and transferring their own citizens to that stolen land?

The United Nations Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, the International Committee of the Red Cross, the International Court of Justice, and the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Convention all concur that the Israeli settlements are illegal. Anyone who supports this land theft has fallen into the “Israel is right, and the world is wrong” mindset.

They aren't occupied, there was no such thing as a Palestinian state before Israel took over. Its all just so much blue smoke and mirrors and if the Israels left the middle east altogether the Muslims would just fight amongst themselves over the real estate. There is no love among any of them for their neighbor and the only thing they can all agree upon is that the Jews are worthy of hating more than each other. I suppose you would prefer someone like Saddam Hussein or the Turkish who have been attempting genocide on the Kurds and using things like mustard gas on their own people.

Really? Tell me where the Palestinian people lived in 1944, and what they were doing there.

This. Their settlements are illegal. What more needs to be said? A two state solution will never come if Israel is focused on expansion rather than peace.

Many of the same people living there today. The sad truth is middle eastern Jews and the so-called Palestinians are genetically identical and a huge percentage of Israel's population today is Muslim.

The facts that middle eastern Jews and the so-called Palestinians are genetically identical and that the entire middle east is a disaster where everyone is constantly attempting to destroy or conquer their neighbor using any means possible including mustard gas and genocide are hardly "blatant generalizations". Sad is what they are. So sad taking sides of any kind in this mess is to merely contribute to the ongoing disaster.

So-called Palestinians? Yes, many of them are living there today. Now tell me what they were doing at that time.

Nothing more needs to be said . . . unless you're a person who chooses to marginalize the Palestinians as a way to help justify Israel's circumvention of International law.
