one more thing, make sure to rinse the dr bronners out very well if you choose to use it. just baking soda and water works too but I have heard some people say dr bronners makes their hair dread faster. I only use dr bronners wash occasionally. the rest of the time I use baking soda and water. And it's seriously crucial that you dilute the heck out of the dr bronners as it's heavy duty stuff. (There is also dr bronners bar soap I have used that as well on my dreads before)
I have another question? I'm not gonna do it, i'm just curious, but: What would happen if you got a section of hair, and put a bead right at the top of that section, and left it? Would it dread up, or wouldn't it do anything? I've been quite curious about this for a while
It will section it off. It will eventually dread like the rest of your hair but it won't make it dread faster necessarily, it will just section it. So feel free to bead up your hair it won't hurt!
No problemo. Good luck and remember neglect can be a slow process just enjoy the journey and know the end result will be way worth it.
The results always look good ^^ i've had two sets of dreads already and not been happy with them, but I know this sets gonna be my last : I have five in already, been in for months lol
Most locks form from the tip, not the root. I had like two exceptions on my whole head, out of like 30 locks. So you very well might end up with a lock with a bead stuck in the middle. Bead will slow locking anyway, the strands in that lock wont move against each other as much as they should. Probably won't even stay on, if it's not a mature lock.
god dammit if you bind the hair with ANYTHING it will not lock up, or it will hinder locking. bead included. just a reminder, the FAQ is right here: http://www.hipforums.com/newforums/showthread.php?t=365451&f=209
I have beaded non locked hair, it locks. I mean, I suppose it best to wait for it to start dreading first but the beads never hurt my hair personally. :\
My experience is it will help keep the sections from growing together, although it may be hard if not impossible to get the bead off once your hair actually does start locking. As someone said previously, "your hair locks from the tip not the root". Good luck, I hope you find your way on your journey.
Thank you I quite like having unbrushed hair, haha. I've not touched it at all since I stopped brushing, except when I put headbands on, other than that, i've not touched my hair
Yes, you are correct. I also had dreads in the past FYI. And said in my personal experience it was no issue.
I'd love to see pics of what people's hair looks like had they left a bead on since the beginning of the process. I guess it depends on the size, material, shape of the bead.
I guess without something holding the bead up, it would be quite hard for it to stay in without dropping out of your hair
I guess we'll have my hair as an example once it's fully dreaded haha. We shall see. I'll leave that back bead on as an experiment. It's a glass bead that has been there already for months. Of course, that won't be for a year, give or take. By then, I think this will be forgotten.
The dread would look thinner in the spot the bead covered, and slightly bulgy directly beneath. My name is Dinosaur's old set, and I approved this message.
