All day long I have these movies that play out in my mind. They involve me getting bossed around, pressured to do things I don't feel comfortable doing, lectured, and controlled. Does this happen to anyone else? Any tips on how to get rid of them?
I kind of get this but instead of daydreams i have intrusive thoughts just while walking around or working etc.. idk if thats what you meant
This happens to me, too. I think it's pretty natural and helps us deal with these situations if they ever occur in real life.
I have a lot of daydreams dealing with death. I think daydreams, much like dreams and nightmares, are just a way of dealing with our deepest fears and desires
I don't know how to deal with these situations in real life. Should I just let it roll right off my back? Also, should I keep certain info private like the fact that I'm agnostic (some of my daydreams involve people saying agnostics have no morals for example) or promiscuous (daydreams about people calling me a common whore for example and forcing me to stop having sex). Also, is there a way to get rid of these daydreams? Thanks!
You need to accept the fact that our minds can be a little weird at times. Dont try and fight it. you will never win. Once you accept it, your mind will stop.. bullying you
Is it mental illness or is it normal? Also should I just remain silent and ignore it completely? Or should I assert?
Sounds normal to me, Samantha. You do have control over your daydreams, you can just try and be more mindful of them while they happen. That might end up becoming more frustrating than anything.
It's hard to be proud of who I am, what I'm about, and what I do when these daydreams happen. Right now a teacher figure is breathing down my neck about the fact that I wear bright colors. He keeps saying, "you're not a hippie. You're not a hippie." I know I'm not a hippie god damn it. But I'm a fun free spirit and this is how I like to dress because it's an expression of who I am. He called me a slut. Then he tried to shame me about the fact that I didn't get offended and lash out. This is a reflection of how in life people try to get you to be something you're not. I have been shamed about the fact that I'm not headstrong and aggressive, not a "real black girl."
Samantha, get a digital recorder and record him saying that shit. If you think you're a hippy, then you're a hippy. If you wanna wear bright colors, wear bright colors. And the next time he calls you a slut file a grievance against him (with the digital recording). At the minimum it's sexual harassment. And don't hold back. If he calls you a slut, bitch slap him.
just be yourself at all times, some people will like you for who you are and some won't. the ones that won't aren't worth it. most of the time if u just be yourself then people will pretty much be cool with it tho, let ur personality out :sunny: people also won't be able to manipulate someone that is very sure of who they are i know this is easier to say here than to actually do but i know that for the most part, its true. of course there are gonna be the occasional exception, and there are some people that just enjoy being a problem whenever they can so its good to identify those people early on i think.
Well, to be funny...you could stand on your head and repeat the alphabet backwards and some people will still not like you...others will like you no matter what...come rain or come shine....however, I do not think the people that do not like me are not worth it. They are worth it...just not to me...as they don't like me...LOL It is late, and I am in silly mode...sorry.....lol
Well, program your dreams with responses. Think about them, over and over, before you go to bed. This''l program them. Like program yourself for a good response. Me and a few others walk up when he's calling you a slut and knocking you for being a hippy and we back you up. Imagine anything you want for the support you'd want at the time. And hopefully that'll help the dreams stop.
in general i think people (myself included) often think others are way more critical of their behavior or even looks than they really are. i think in reality most people generally don't care that much if you do or say something dumb, and you shouldn't care wat they think either.
I use to day dream in class a lot even when I was younger, always got good grades though. Teachers would always call my parents about it. But Later in life I found out I just wasn't interested in living a program life style. My advice to you, is just be yourself and if people don't accept it than fuck em. Because everybody wants to kiss your ass when you become successful, but call you crazy when you don't have nothing. Find something you love doing, and just work hard to achieve you're goal. You will have to take a lot of shit through you're journey, but in the end the work ethic is what will make you succeed. Stay strong sista Samantha :afro:
You seem like a nice person. These daydreams sound normal. I would bet most people have similar daydreams at least some of the time, if not most of the time. I have daydreams of being assertive, passive, passive aggressive, humiliated, angry, inferior, etc. If the daydreams are causing you a lot of pain, you might want to talk to a counselor. Insight meditation is supposed to be good for dealing with your inner voice. I would imagine assertiveness training and work with self esteem would be helpful in dealing with issues that might be at the heart of your daydreams if they get to a level that is painful. Don't feel bad about having the daydreams. Like others have posted, they are normal.
Wow you guys are so kind! Thanks so much everyone for your input. I'm glad I'm not alone and that this is normal.
