:ssmokeit:I have a fantasy involving Benicio Del Toro, a cheap hotel room and a nice sack of chronic....does that make me a "beaner" lover?
I adore Mexico. It's such a beautiful country with such a sophisticated culture, lively people, and a gracious society. *coughs and cracks nuckles* By deporting 'illegals' you risk separating mothers from children, sisters from brothers, husbands from wives, and tearing all kinds of human lives apart by the millions. Have you been to Ellis Island? Millions of illegals were entering the United States of America by boat by the drones for decades. They would come to America, settle in various areas of the nation and work their tails off. The Irish, the Poles, Italians, etc. They didn't learn English overnight either, they were treated like the scum of the earth before most of them were re-patriated or their children grew up as legal citizens. Does anyone remember when the US government deported its own citizens in the early 1930s? Oh yeah, they happened to be Mexican - so we naturally all forgot about that part of history. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Repatriation_Movement Maybe some can even read up on the Immigration Act of 1924 - which aimed to regulate where immigrants came from and targeted specific ethnicities and races from entering the United States for decades. (Perhaps this quota standard perpetuated the social stigma and idea that illegals who arrived were unwilling to become full citizens because they identified themselves as being granted by the federal government the status of an immigrant living in the country.) Learn your immigration history and labour movements. It's better to know the history of issues than to make up personal opinions on how to tackle the issue. *flexes and shows a little ankle*
All the stoners here who hate the fact marijuana is illegal, look at the deportation of Mexicans in the 1930's. A lot of the Mexican labor in the south west at the time was in farm help cultivating hemp. Anslinger, the famous drug czar militantly against marijuana in fact thought it was stupid to try to control marijuana over cocaine and heroin, until he saw political points in the fact governors of south western states were looking for reasons to get federal help to deport Mexican migrant workers. Also can't forget this jewel of the 1950's just for its name alone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Wetback
Have you seen the Benicio Del Toro "Ché'' film? Zomg. :willy_nilly: You should. In Canada, in my region, we call grams of weed ''beans''. Ex: ''So how many beans do you want?'' or ''Hey, wanna smoke a bean?''
First of all, I dont need to learn another language. Secondly, there is no reason why an American should have to learn a second language to get a job. But the Government seems to be no longer making it a requirement that you read, write and speak English to become a citizen, and the influx of mezcans in the South has now caused an American to lose his or her job to a mezcan. I see it happening all the time. Americans are losing their jobs because they cant speak mezcan. If you think there is ANY rightful reasoning in this, then you are just plain ignorant, and either you are a traitor to your own people, are afraid to stand up fpr what is right, or, you are mezcan yourself.
Yes I saw it! I have the dvd, the special features rock!! Benecio is a fine actor and a beautiful hunk of man.
It is. Actually, I retired at 40. Work your ass off at 96 hours per week for 15 years and you can do it to.
Thats awesome. my dad was going to retire at 50 but stupid scabbers took his job. dick move the union did, 3 years he had left but Im determined to retire early. I finally got a job and going back to college and have plans to move out in december or jan so im working my way up.
Learning English was never a requirement during the heyday of immigration to America, boats showed up, people were given quick medical exams, asked some questions, then let into America. Only about 3% of people were turned back. English was not a requirement and most immigrants did in fact know it. If they knew English and this was 1907 Europe that would mean unless they were English they'd probably be rather wealthy and educated and not be immigrants. And no, I'm not Mexican, I'm mostly Italian and Irish, 2 other groups that went through the same bullshit. How the fuck do you not see what you really are, the same racist assholes every generation has towards immigration. Also, stop trying to rewrite history. There never was any golden age of immigration where everyone knew English and all immigrants went onto to live the American dream.
So did the rest of our families. I dont know why im being given a hard time about this Did you know they changed my last name cause the people at ellis couldnt spell it? lol
1954 was not the hey day of immigration, jesus christ. That stops with the immigration act of 1924 which was specifically aimed to set racial quotas to stop people of southern and eastern European heritage from coming here since post 1880's that's where most immigrants were originating from. My ancestors bought a ticket on an ocean liner, took a week long trip, spent about 8 hours on Ellis island and were then let onto the ferry to Manhattan with near no grasp of English.
yeah cause they didnt need to talk. just say their name and choose a better simpler name and make em work
Who said anything about some heyday? I am just saying that my mom was required to know English, and that this is the way it should still be, but it is not. And as for you calling me a racist, I am not. I have no problem with anyone coming here to better their life, but they should learn the language. I went to Germany back in the 80's, and before I did, i learned some German, out of respect for the country I was visiting. Now, if I were to move to any country, I would learn the language first, and not expect them to accomodate me otherwise, and I just think the damn mezcans should do the same. Seems like it is mainly the mezcans that wont do this, as the majority of all others that come here to live learn the language.
This is one of those things that there's no way to 'logically' argue out in either direction because language constantly evolves and it's entirely likely in a hundred years or so that Spanish, English, and Net-speak will merge into some new and terrible language. But, from the standpoint of common sense - if you go somewhere; it's the courteous and expected thing to take a shot at learning the ways of that place. If you go in someone's house and they say "Oh please take your shoes off at the door" you don't say "FUCK YOU IN MY HOUSE WE WEAR SHOES EVEN WHEN WE SLEEP YOU DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT TO FORCE THIS ON US". You're in America, we're an English speaking country. It's easier to learn than Spanish anyway. And honestly the majority of the population who grew up speaking English can't speak it even close to properly anyway; so it won't take much practice to be ahead of the curve.
Also, side note on how easy it use to be to immigrate: "In 1907, the peak year of immigration, 13,064 of the 1,285,349 immigrants who passed through Ellis island were sent home, most because of disease or the inspector's conclusion that the person in question was likely to become a public charge" Our ancestors literally had near a 99% chance of getting in.
