100 years ago, there were more than 150 car manufacturers in America alone. Now, there is only a small handful left. One of those long forgotten automotive brands was Krit Motor Cars. A car company that used the swastika as it their logo and brand identity. As you probably already know, prior to the Nazi uprising the swastika was a commonly used symbol that originates back to ancient times. In some cultures it was a symbol of good luck. Krit manufactured cars in Detroit, but focused mostly on selling their products in Europe. This picture below looks like it might be a Nazi vehicle. However, this car was technologically outdated by the time of Hitler's reign. Due to WWI breaking out in Europe, Krit quickly went out of business. The Nazis adopted the Krit Motors logo as their own. The Swastika represents a straight-line S for socialism. This fascinating article explains more about it. http://rexcurry.net/krit_motor_car_company_detroit.html
As you said yourself the symbol is older than the car logo. So they did not stole it from that car brand. They took it from their own germanic cultural heritage and reused it. Just like Krit motor cars apparently did.
Hitler was a great admirer of Henry Ford, who he described as 'an inspiration'. More to do with Ford's anti-semitism than cars, although the idea for the Volkswagon came from the model-T. Ford is the only American who gets a mention in 'Mien Kampf'.
The red white and black emblem of Krit is way too close to the Nazi flag to disregard and say it wasn't ripped off.
I collect ww1 memorabilia, and have a broach used by the red cross national savings..but then this... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_use_of_the_swastika_in_the_early_20th_century
I didn't know Bill, till I got this broach/badge with a ww1 medal..it amazed me, so I researched it.. surprised!
"The swastika represented crossed S letters for socialism". Lol. Article in its entirety confirmed bullshit right there and then.
Alrighty then. You're the expert on this subject. Please enlighten us dummies on what it really means.
First off. Scrub your belief in this "socialist" cross, we all know the swastika has been around since the dawn of time depicted and represented in its cultural significance. No I'm not going to go into it. I said it in another thread anyway, find the one about the racist nationalist rant. It's recent. Anyway, 70-80 years on and the mystery of the Swastika and why Hitler chose to use it, I highly doubt that, you've stumbled upon something after all these years. Hitler designed the VW for the German people, so to completely steal the inisignia from a enemy country just doesn't make too much sense, nor does using said foreign insignia on your own pantheon especially when nationalistic pride is so indoctrinated in the folk at the time. I just don't buy this at all. Also in the link you posted; "The swastika, although an ancient symbol, was also used to represent crossed "S" letters for "socialism" under the National Socialist German Workers Party (Nazis), similar to the alphabetical symbolism for the SS Division, the SA, the NSV, and the VW logo (the letters "V" and "W" joined for "Volkswagen"). If he's implying that the SS bolts were similar to Swastika representing socialism, which is exactly how I read it, then it's completely false. The SS bolts were taken strictly out of the Elder Futhark runic alphabet, by Himmler. These were Sowilo runes. If anything, the combined VW logo is more of a binding, which meant a lot to the German culture in the day. Bined runes create more energy than single runes. Again, runes. Not alphabets, not car company logos. Runes. Culturally. Significant. Symbolisms.
Wait...so Hitler saw some runes and decided to go with the swastika? I read a whole lot of words but don't understand any more than I did before.
No, the swastika isn't a rune. The SS insignia were based off runes. A lot of the insignias were based off runes and bind runes, Himmler was fanatical about Norse Mythology so it's no surprise to see Norse influences throughout his SS units. I don't think anybody knows why Hitler chose the swastika. It's debated still today, right here. and all over the world. I can only hint about what it means to me in words and description of what it meant to my family members that marched under it. Now keep in mind like I just said, I don't know if anyone really knows why it was chosen. You get many stories from the reversed angle of the Hindu swastika meaning peace all the way to this new S for socialism stuff. That's a new one to me by the way hehe. So in the North, in the cold lands of Scandinavia a great deal of emphasis was put on the sun. The Vikings needed the sun after few months of darkness. The sun was just as critical to the Vikings as it was to the Egyptians. Once the sun came back to life in the north it opened up the avenues in which the Vikings travelled. The waters. The oceans we free themselves from icy chains, the rivers and inland oceans would melt away. The Vikings travelled all over the earth by waterways so the sun was a crucial element to them. It was depicted as a swastika, except her arms were curved, not straight. I'm fairly certain also that Slavic cultures had also adopted the sun sphere as a representation of the sun and that's what it was in the early days of Europe. And it looks like a sun too. So you've got two high men who are into the cultural and ethnic history of the European people, and one of them highly influenced with the Norse. I'll make mention that Hitler didn't believe in the Norse as strongly as Himmler did. Hitler passed the tales off as nothing more than epic stage plays, probably under influence of Richard Wagners music. Now I can't say what it stood for every person at the time, but it was explained to me that there were two main differentials of the swastika during WW2. They both look exactly like they do in the first picture of the thread. That being, red, white, black... but one swastika face North and south, and the other is tilted on an angle. Now most structures of importance, political monuments, religious monuments and military buildings were mostly decorated with the swastika facing north and south. This represented an anchor of sorts, that the structures/national socialism weren't going anywhere. The angled swastika was mostly displayed on the insignia and battle jack flags of the German army. The tilt makes the swastika look like the "spokes of a wheel" - also called the spoked wheel.. it was positioned in a way that looked like the wheel was moving forward and the representation was that the Wehrmacht were "moving forward during battle". This is what one of my grandfathers who marched under it told me what it meant to him etc. Also have to think about the colors chosen. They weren't stolen from the car manufacturer. Red, white, black were the colors of the Imperial Kaiser flag which was overtaken by the swastika and then forgotten about with the colors that represent my nation today. The colors of Democracy, that could never stand for Germany! Which is why many still fly the Kaiser Jack. Red, white, black are our true colors. So that's my history lesson on what it means to me and to a few that were with it at the time.
I don't believe the angle or direction has any particular significance. More to do with the artist who drew the design (left or right handed artist) Even the German Nazi swastika can be found straight or angled. I like this one .......
Did Hitler steal the 25-point program of the National Socialist German Workers' Party also, or did he come up with that horror on his own?
Thread title should be changed into 'Krip 'stole' (or 'ripped off', whatever tickles your fancy) the swastika from germanic culture.
Swastika was a sign of good luck and power.. obviously that's why it's chosen in any state..what I'm going for, and most understanding I think!
