WTF are the quotations for? that's reeeally nice, diton. are you suggesting that people who backcomb don't have actual dreads? last i checked, dreads are consisted of matted hair, regardless of how it came to be matted. and my dreads were backcombed, NOT ONE FELL OUT. pretty sure that the only ways they would fall out would be A) over washing (which would tear ALL dreads up, not just backcombed), B) lazy, loose combing, and C) slathering them in wax. mine stuck up for exactly ONE night. i slept on them, weight/gravity tends to have that effect. and yeah, they were poofy, but so are all the fresh t&r's i've seen on here. in fact, they look pretty similar to a few days after backcombing. and they don't look any sillier than neglect, which is a very messy process. i know the poster was truly being innocent in seeking opinions but i just knew this thread was going to become some sort of hate on everyone else's method fest. it's lame. just give her your insight and GTFO. i have MAD respect for people with natural dreads, until they come off like 'omg my dreads are holier than thou' BS. i have MAD respect for anyone who has dreads and had the patience to create them. there doesn't have to be factions, fuck. i miss being a fresh dready totally unaware of all the dicktits out there who totally worship their method. when i first came here i really felt like there were people who could help me out with any issues, teach me things from their own experiences. where did that go? to the poster, buddy, they're all good ways to start them. look at our albums and figure out what you can keep up with and what you know you can do. i backcombed, i liked it, i will do it again. there you go.
just meant that right after backcombing it's not really dreads, more just sections of backcombed hair. and i have nothing against backcombing, more against corey hating on my hair personally.
buddy i'm pretty sure he just thought you were flaming BC just like me. can you send me a link to your one month? i'd like to see for myself, i had no idea you did t&r. that's something i regret doing too, i should have taken photos of them right away, it was sideshow bob, but by the morning they had calmed down completely sorry if all that sounded bitchy, there's just been so much crap on here lately. people left right and center being huge douchebags either for their own entertainment or because they think they're right, and i don't know which type to hate more. a month or two ago this place was awesome. lately it's been brimming over in shit. it's funny because if you flip through any welcome threads or pretty much ANY thread you will come across someone who says the same thing. "don't get scared away" and "don't let people get to you". it's too bad that that's even necessary to say.
lets face reality here kid. you've had a month, and you still have a ton of loose hairs. yet you claim that BC'd dreads fall out. i can testify that such a case was not true for me or any of the six friends of mine that i BC'd their dreads for. apparently kate also testifies the same. now somewhere along the way you decided T&R was "better" yet i cant find any reason to believe what you're saying isnt method loyalty blabber. looks as though t&r doesnt even get a chance to fall out for you. the majority of your hair is still loose. yes, its loose. obviously loose. blatantly loose. clearly loose. undeniably loose. this is after a MONTH. myself and my friends had less loose hair through our first week even. im hatin on you AND your momma now.
Different things work for different people.. and there are soo many differnt types of hair textures out there it is really no wonder. ANYWAY!that BIG post of NP's is awesome, and all you need to know. It's really all a matter of opnion and what you want. I will admit sort of agreeing with the Natural>TnR>backcombing sentiment. ..and my hair was TnR just a bit over a month ago so please don't be so mean IRT diton(even if it seems well earned) you will hurt my wittle feelings
Ok so I thought for sure I already replied to this.. LOL maybe not- could have just been my imagination. I say T&R is more natural looking & locks up nicer than BC, although for many BC works well for them. Its really just preference. Perhaps spend some time looking through timelines and blogs of the different methods and see which one seems to suit your style more?
i would venture to say that most people in this forum, including yourself and corey do not have dreads.
No.... they almost alway look like backcombed hair for monhths and months and really just look like shit. I know, my hair took 6 months before it didn't look like someone took a comb backwards through my hair. backcomb hair(and twist and rip hair) don't = dreads. Dreads make themselves over time. And your bit on bands... not so much truth as opinion...good thing you said that.
:cheers2: yes, that's a whole different discussion though. i hate the term "dreads". nobody here cept some random people that rarely visit have "dreads". i have locks. and they're barely locks as i'm only 6 mos. in.
oh, and it's also a personal pet peeve of mine when people use the word "dread" as a verb to describe the locking process. but, say whatever you want. it just sounds stupid to me.
my mom calls them 'that thing on your head' theyre defo not 'dreads' yet, still backcombed sections that are just starting to matt
yeah, defo. when i went for my first night at the bar job i had, another new girl came up to me and said "...are they supposed to be dreads?"
i would venture to say that i dont really care what you say herbalist. i have never even posted a picture beyond 3 months of my progress so there's really nothing you can say that isnt assumed. especially considering i'm almost at the year mark. a poser rasta would act such a way though, im not surprised.
