Actually the population in the 1940's was 2,070,000,000 and he killed Eleven million. 6 million Jewish, 5 million other. So no his death toll today wouldn't be that devastating @ 7 billion but at two billion it would not counting Russian victims, Pearl Harbor and Japan.

you don't advocate war, but have no problem with using people for medical experimentation to "benefit mankind", so you feel the same about it as Josef Mengele.
kind of a disconnect there, don't ya think.

    The Medical Killer
Although this type of killer is very rare, there have been some people who have become involved in the medical industry as a way to carry out their nefarious deeds. This type of killer feels they have the perfect cover because it is very common for people in a hospital to pass away. They are usually highly intelligent and know how to carefully and cleverly conceal their murders. As long as it appears that a victim has died a natural death, there will be no reason for anyone to suspect foul play and search for the guilty party. A few doctors in history have managed to kill dozens of people before others began to catch on.

    The Organized Killer
This type of serial killer is the most difficult to identify and capture. They are usually highly intelligent and well organized to the point of being meticulous. Every detail of the crime is planned out well in advance, and the killer takes every precaution to make sure they leave no incriminating evidence behind. It is common for this type of psychopath to watch potential victims for several days to find someone they consider to be a good target. Once the victim is chosen, the killer will pick them up, often through some sort of ploy designed to gain their sympathy, and take them to another location to commit the murder. Once the person has been killed, the perpetrator will usually take precautions to ensure the body is not found … until they want it to be. A criminal like this usually takes great pride in what they consider to be their “work” and have a tendency to pay close attention to news stories about their deeds. One of their motivating factors may be just to attempt to stump the law enforcement officers who are trying to solve their crime.

    The Disorganized Killer
These individuals rarely plan out the deaths of their victims in any way. Most often, the people they kill just happen to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. This type of serial killer appears to strike at random whenever an opportunity arises. They take no steps to cover up any signs of their crime, and tend to move to different towns or even states regularly to avoid being captured. Disorganized killers usually have low IQ’s and are extremely antisocial. They rarely have close friends or family, and do not like to stay in one place for too long. These killers are prone to have no recollection of their deeds, or to confess that they were motivated by voices in their heads or some other imaginary source.

Currently, there are four main types of serial killers listed, with many different subcategories listed under each. You see a full list of the different kinds of killers and the characteristics of their crimes by clicking here. And, depending on the nature of their crime, they are either categorized as organized or disorganized. Organized serial killers tend to be rather intelligent, usually having IQ scores ranging from 105 to 120. Every detail of their crime is planned out well in advance, and the killer take every precaution to make sure they lerave no evidence behind to link them to a murder. It is not uncommon for this type of psychopath to watch potential victims for days to find someone they consider a good target. Disorganized serial killers, on the other hand, tend to have lower IQ scores than average, ranging from 80 to 95. These kind of killers rarely plan out their actions, and they appear to kill at random, usually people that happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time. They usually do not take the extra precautions to cover up or remove any evidence of the crime, and they tend to travel from state to state, or even to other countries, to avoid being captured by the authorities. For more characteristics on organized and disorganized killers, you can follow this link.

The four main types of serial killers based by the type of crime they commit are as follows: thrill seekers, mission-oriented, visionary killers, and power/control seekers.

Thrill seekers are serial killers that see outsmarting the law as some sort of amusement. They enjoy attention from the media and they also enjoy being pursued by the police. They can be distinguished from other serial killers because of the fact that they send messages to others and they keep detailed records of their killings. Because of this, it is logical to say that most thrill seekers can be categorized as organized, but at the same time they do not always plan everything out in advance. For that, they are also seen as unorganized killers. Thrills seekers typically use weapons and/or rape their victims before killing them. After that, they hide the victim's corpse and they move on to their next victim, that is, unless of course they are caught in the act of doing so.

Mission-oriented serial killers are killers that feel that they are doing society a favor by ridding it of certain people; these can include young women, prostitutes, drug dealers, or homosexuals, people they feel that society could do without. These killers are generally not psychotic. Some see themselves as trying to change society. They always have a controlled crime scene, hence categorizing them as organized makes them much easier to track. However, since these killers always go after specific victims, this makes them much easier to track down.

Visionary serial killers are people that occaisionally suffer from psychotic breaks from society. They sometimes believe they are another person, or they are compelled to murder by higher entities such as God or the Devil. In fact, the two most common subcategories for visionary serial killers are demon-mandated and God-mandated. David Berkowitz is an example of such a killer. He had claimed that a demon transmitted orders to him through his neighbor's dog that told him to kill. Since visionary killers tend to be more unorganized than other killers, they are very easy to track down.

Power and Control serial killers enjoy their victim's terror, suffering and screaming. These killers tend to be very organized and they usually have a history of childhood abuse, which left them feeling powerless and inadequete as adults. Many of these killers also sexually abuse their victims, but they are not motivated by feelings of lust. To them, rape is simply another form of dominating the victim.

Besides these four basic categories listed, there are also dozens of other subcategories that make serial killers unique based on their killing rituals and the nature of their crimes. For example, "black Widow" is the title given given to female serial killers, because it is known that a female black widow spider always kills and digests its mate after laying her eggs. There are also serial killers that kill another person after already killing someone else. These kind of serial killers are called "spree killers". "Lust killers" are serial killers that harm their victims largely for sexual arousal, and there are killers that form clubs that kill for sacrifice and acceptance into the group; these are called "group killers", but are more commonly refered to as cults. "Mass murderers" are serial killers that kill large groups of people at a time, killing with no specific targets in mind, but rather just to kill for their own enjoyment.

Serial killlers can also keep mementos of their victims once they are dead. Robert Keppel, an American detective and law enforcement officer (now retired), placed these collections into two categories: souvenirs and trophies. Souvenirs are personal items which allow the killer to enjoy their memories of particular crimes they committed. These can be things such as jewelry, body parts, and other items pertaining to the victim. Trophies are objects that serial killers can make into a shrine, forming a collection of particular items from their past crimes.

I haven't read the whole thread as I find this statement:

    to be totally preposterous.
I'm not condemning Kitty for expressing the idea, I just think it's totally off base in regards to evolutionary theory.

Why do species adapt to survive?

It's there in genes. It is something animals are hard wired with.
    See : Self-preservation

    Why does evolution really occur?

The self preservation mentioned above leads to animals competing with other animals of same species and animals of other species for food. This leads to natural selection.

Natural selection is the gradual process by which biological traits become either more or less common in a population as a function of the effect of inherited traits on the differential reproductive success of organisms interacting with their environment. It is a key mechanism of evolution.

Evolution by natural selection is a process inferred from three facts about populations: 1) more offspring are produced than can possibly survive, 2) traits vary among individuals, leading to different rates of survival and reproduction, and 3) trait differences are heritable.[4] Thus, when members of a population die they are replaced by the progeny of parents better adapted to survive and reproduce in the environment in which natural selection takes place. This process creates and preserves traits that are seemingly fitted for the functional roles they perform.[5]Natural selection is the only known cause of adaptation, but not the only known cause of evolution. Other, nonadaptive causes of evolution include mutation and genetic drift.

They may be intelligent but they can't be trusted if they use it only for their own personal gain.
There is a lot more to it then just killing if you are "defending" a nation. Otherwise we might as well call our military, terrorist groups.

Even if killing is their ultimate goal. What makes you think they won't turn around and kill our own people in exchange for money and power by our enemy? What makes you think they won't betray their country when taken as hostage in order to free themselves? That's the difference between killing for pleasure and killing in defense of a nation. A person who kills for pleasure and enjoyment won't care who they kill. Hence it would backfire on us.

It always amazes me....when 2 get together to victimize someone.....what makes either one of them think they will not be next with each other...along the lines of your reasoning here, TD.

Defending something is one thing, like you said.....but the other types can go to hell.

Ever watched a cat play with a mouse? catch, let go, catch, let go. It doesn't eat it. any time you're "playing" with a cat you're essentially simulating hunting for their entertainment.

Surplus killing, as in, killing more than can possibly be eaten, thereby ruling out simple survival alone as a motive, has been observed in loads of species. According to wikipedia: zooplankton, damselfly naiads, predaceous mites, martens, weasels, honey badgers, wolves, orcas, red foxes, leopards, lions, spotted hyenas, spiders, brown and black and polar bears, coyotes, lynx, mink, raccoons, dogs, house cats, and humans.

I mean, we haven't wired up their brains to see if hunting stimulates their pleasure centres, but we know they aren't simply doing it to survive. Makes sense that they'd enjoy it from an evolutionary perspective. If you enjoy it, you practice it, you get more proficient. we know lots of animals that simulate fighting between themselves when young as "games" they enjoy it, but it also makes them more proficient fighters in adulthood. The same is almost certainly true of hunting.

I have to agree, It doesn't square too well with my understanding of evolution either.

Our ancestors didn't have to evolve much to kill and evolved much more from killing and eating meat. I think most humans are lazy about killing a more and find it distasteful. Killing requires work and we are raised to solve differences with intelligence. Sometimes people are mentally sick and kill, or are careless and kill. Maybe eating meat is careless and living on beans causes people to care. Most people still have a kill or be killed attitude somewhere inside their mind. But there are so many things that kill us it's a matter of personal choice how you want to die. A mass extinction on the other hand would be very bad as I find humans generally have good character.

How so? Let me put it to you this way....if someone killed one of your loved ones, would you be sending them love letters? I can put myself in the shoes of any scenario.....They are sitting in jail , anyway, and many times going to death row, so why waste medical science when they would be perfect candidates....See how far crime drops with that as a pending sentence........The only thing wrong with it, is that, some times the innocent are convicted....and it would never work anyway....again......we are speaking of scenarios that will never occur here, and I can be fecetious.

uhmm, it is considered cruel and unusual punishment.
I think the death penalty is much better and ultimately more humane, if that is your concern.

really, you see no problem in thinking the death penalty is wrong but being in favor of using prisoners for forced medical testing?

if you really want to see a rapid drop in violent crime, bring back swiftly administered public executions, works wonders.

Yeah, but I rather someone who killed someone I loved be used rather than an animal who has done nothing to no one. I guess you still did not get my point.
If someone that i love gets killed...I would not care how cruel and unusual their murderer's punishment would be!

Personally for me it depends on the person that I "loved" that was killed. I might very well send the killer a love letter. Personally I don't mind the concept of genetic experiments on killers that is to far gone to be of any use to experimented on for human gain. It would not only help the advancement of I or species if we were able to keep him alive during the experimentation, but it could help medical advances as well. I personally think the death penalty is to light in most cases. We can all see that jailing and the threat of death doesn't work anyway. It just gives like minded people a free way to live all the while passing on their undesirable ways according to our society and giving them a successor to teach who will eventually be on the outside. Out of their confinements to experiment with the things they have learned to be better than their master before them.

As for evolution obviously killing was a desirable trait to be passed on in our genetic structure through evolution otherwise it wouldn't occur. The thing that hinders our advancements is obviously law and the all important and righteous morals we see ourselves having to live up to. Personally I would rather follow natures laws of survival. Life as it is now is boring and that is why killers play. If we were following natures law there would be no murder as everything would be fair game the way it was intended. Do you see animals punishing animals for killing. They realize it is what it is.

As for our military being terrorist. Well they are terrorists they just have a bigger backing and a false sense of what is right and wrong that is taught to us. The only thing we go to war for is political and financial gain and in most cases it doesn't actually benifit we the citizens. It benifits the government that we live under most of the time it hinders the citizens. Because of tax raises and inflation occurs due to our government borrowing money we're expected to pay back all the while they are getting away with not putting a dime back in.
All the while we are over reconstructing governments of other countries for our own personal gain, and killing all that oppose us calling them terrorist so it's seen as all right in the eyes of our people. The people of those countries stay oblivious thinking they have a choice and rights. Even though it's all faux pas.

OK, so you would not mind total anarchy...I heard this once before from a female that was very unhappy with her own life......and I felt as she was talking..."oh, how sad she must be."

Not all of the animals are killers and predators, though...but ok, if that is what you wish for....I must start gathering my guns, and building my walls a little higher now....

If it had made any significant difference, we wouldn't now be facing over population as we are. I would have thought that would be patently obvious.

I don't want total anarchy per say. I am not sad in the slightest, I do not pity myself, or have any reason to hate anybody I am just opinionated. I am actually a vary calm person who doesn't get upset easily. I am not saying all animals are killers we all have our herbivores. In every society. I was just giving my opinion on an earlier statement. When it comes to military and what goes on across seas.
