    ZONK

What would be the point of an optional National ID? I was merely pointing out that it had its benefits. If it was optional it wouldn't be a National ID system would it.

Just who is full of fear? I have nothing to hide, I am not paranoid about carrying an ID card. I have no reasons to question. I think perhaps you are the one who should question your fears and insecurities.

ID cards dont prevent fraud. If ID cards had the same chip and pin technology as the new credit card will have then they would go a long way to helping prevent fraud of identity as well as monetary fraud. Anyone who has suffered from ID theft will know this. It happens a lot.

And now we get to your point. Quoting 'old right wing' nonsense just because you don't agree with something and trying to get sympathy with the 'ethnic minority' chestnut is boring. Most of us don't do that any more.

I live in Birmingham, its about as ethnic as it gets and yet my ethnic friends, my ethnic wife and plenty of others who live in high rise blocks with limited income don't go on bleating about suffering harassment on a daily basis.

If you really want to make your point then try doing it with a little more respect for others views instead of forced opinions and outright attacks on the middle class which make up the majority of the population, pay their taxes and get on with their lives.

This argument always pisses me off. Like it's wrong to want to hide things. Like it automatically makes you a criminal. It's called privacy!!! Some of us don't relish the idea of the state poking its nose into every aspect of our lives.

Quite aside from which, many people who're involved in various protest movements do have something to hide. With police increasingly building databases and profiles of protesters, it's quite natural that people should feel inclined to worry about another erosion of privacy. Added to which, what it may be acceptable for the state to know today, it might be far less acceptable for the state to know tomorrow. Today's government might not care about your religion or ethnicity, but tomorrow? Who knows. Thank fuck the nazis didn't have ID cards to track people with.

Hmmmm. Sounds really radical and hip. So yay the status quo, eh?

News reports and plans are saying that people who don't carry the card will not be able to receive any healthcare. I thought the NHS was supposed to be free to everyone in this country regardless of how much they had paid into the system ... Seems like the government are scared of something too and so feel the need to restrict freedom of movement

Why should anyone respect views that are based on reactionary and oppressive values?

Also ... Since when have the middle classes made up the majority of the population?

Yes it may seem that way and I apologise for my overly argumentative tone. However Matthew is a regular contributor here and is someone who always espouses a reactionary / conservative / right-wing viewpoint on any issue, being either unwilling or unable to question things or to participate in a mature and reasoned debate. I am, of course, joking when I call him a fascist ...

No i don't...it just happens to be diffrent from your own..and many here. I never label you so why label me. I was laughing when you said that before because its not that acurate realy. Just calling me that when i disagree is childish.

I think I touched a nerve rather than you Zonk

Most of the Asian community is not paranoid or frightened to go out. Why single out Asians. Many Blacks and whites might be frightened to go out. This is more down to where you live than any other single factor.

Ah the great middle class versus the oppressed - not worth commenting on

By boring I didn't mean you shouldn't say what you think - I mean't that playing the race card and immediately assuming and putting people in a class is divisive and serves no point.

Wrong about ID theft - if someones steals a chip and pin ID card it will be useless to them without the pin whereas documents, existing credit cards etc can be cloned or copied.

I knew the middle class statement might stir up a hornets nets but lets face it - in modern day suburbia most now aspire to or say they are middle class. Simply having a certain standard is now regarded as middle class. The general consensus of opinion is 'middle class' Britain where most of Britain is now regarded as middle class. Personally I am from a working class background but people would class me as 'middle class'. You can't avoid that. It's not always down to the job you do.

~ As for touching a nerve and hitting my middle class sensibilities - don't flatter yourself - you have no chance of doing that!

I thought I'd offended you in the hunt topic, and I was trying to remember how. I usually have a good recollection for those sorts of things ;)

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to DoktorAtomik again.

I have only negative repped you once , as hard as that is to believe (or not)..

But it doesn't work. I can think of a couple of total dicks with really high reps. It's just a waste of time.
