Not sure if this is the right place to post this.

It's a report on a study done by NASA on the collapse of civilizations, and how our current scenario fits in. I found it alarming as it highlights certain key areas - distribution of wealth, pressure on rescources etc as factors in the demise of previous civilizations, and echos many of my own perceptions in this area.

Well NASA says total collapse by 2030....I do not think it will be so long. It also bothers me that NASA is putting out "collapse" studies like someone 10% called on behalf of a 1% and told them to ramp it up - people aren't rebelling so they can be justifiably shot fast enough.
I think "collapse" is being harped by everyone because we can't enjoy our life and wealth with all these people in the way wanting stuff and being a bother. If NASA says....'cause they're astronauts! and etc....

Come on people! Get the revolution going! "Collapse" is gonna happen! (I want to buy a bigger house and rent jet skis dammit! Ahahaha!)

We had atmospheric collapse (which is a collapse of nature) in 2008 so collapse is *very* relevant to NOW (rather than the future).

Good article. Seems relevant to me. The "create needs" people, (which are wants, not needs, actually) will continue to fill the corporate desires for more and more profits from earths limited resources, while a growing population will clamor for more and more "conveniences" for themselves. We commoners mean nothing to the controllers, other than the money/ labor we generate for them to continue their lavish life styles. You can only subtract so much from ANYTHING until it's gone. We have ourselves a capitalistic death spiral. But the important thing is--BUY MORE.BUY MORE NOW.

Also more along the lines of something more NASA's dept I'd think?

I'm not doubting it because we've known about the dynamics of nekked monkeys for millenia. Ceaser knew it Rome burned. Each time. It's how much is dynamical vs how much is just tyranical and largely manufactured that makes me wonder....

Yeah. Read it. Yet every time I have mentioned this over the years--not much response. If we do survive the capitalists headlong rush to oblivion, our survival will NOT depend on the capitalists themselves. If humans do survive this onslaught on mother earth, these last few hundred years will be looked upon as when humans went crazy and filled their own nest with shit. If there is anyone around to look. This, unfortunately is a sociological aberration that seemingly knows no bounds.

"Nothin' wrong with the earth and climate change is just another way for people to make money. Whater ya' --a fuckin' commie?" Oh, you'll hear it soon.

Atmospheric collapse is relevant to everything and everybody (including animal life). A more well known collapse is bees ("colony collapse disorder"), which is attributed to a deadly virus. Sink holes are another form of collapse. I don't know if they're within normal range of occurrence but I do know there's greater awareness that they occur.

I don't think any form of collapse is being intentionally engineered on purpose.

I fail to see why we can't have fiesta whilst preparing. Farmy people are always preparing anyway and if all you do is go about mourning or blowing air and it really does happen, there will be plenty of suckiness anyway and people will still want a fiesta, zombie pox and all :)

    From the article:

"The independent research project is based on a new cross-disciplinary 'Human And Nature DYnamical' (HANDY) model, led by applied mathematician Safa Motesharrei of the US National Science Foundation-supported National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center, in association with a team of natural and social scientists. The HANDY model was created using a minor Nasa grant, but the study based on it was conducted independently. The study based on the HANDY model has been accepted for publication in the peer-reviewed Elsevier journal, Ecological Economics."

Doesnt really mean any of those guys know shit. For if they do, why arent they leaders in their fields, why are they working at some lame think tank

The OP is interesting, but most of the replies make this thread ripe for the conspiracy forum... Or is there a 'subforum of doom' already? :p

    It's not a NASA study, it's a NASA-funded study.

It seems likely that something resembling a collapse could occur... but no one can be sure about the severity of it.

I definitely think that getting out of cities is a good idea, though... those things will become death traps.

When Rome collapsed, everyone moved into the countryside... and I really don't think there would be cannibalism out there. Land is cheap and there is room to grow things... if not in the fields, then with aquaponics or underground greenhouses. There's also fishing, hunting, trapping, etc. There is no need to eat humans when you have fish and animals and gardens.

Of course, whether or not those animals and fish are poisoned with mine tailings is a concern, given how shitty the regulations are on the environment... but probably it won't matter so much in the future because everything is going to be at least a little bit poisoned.

No, the real shitstorms will be in the cities, where everyone depends on the corporations to keep them fed, clothed, warm and happy. The heat waves will hit harder, the droughts will mean less food being brought in, prices will go way way up for food, water, power and transport... and the crowds and growing poverty will mean a much greater chance of panic/revolt/violence.

I don't know what the US is like but Canada has a lot of space and the warmer climate is making it possible to do a lot more with formerly inhospitable land. When climate change gets worse, the land up north is going to really take off in value, if only because of the water-- assuming the mining companies don't pollute it beyond repair.

She says humans are rapidly decreasing to negative value. That means less than worthless.

    O.O

hahahaha "how easy it would be to take down the United States with these new technologies" hahahaha

Turn Americans into rabid pit bulls, train them in pitted battles against each other, stunt their mentality to that of recess yard = self-ruination. Incivility has got to stop or else these "elite" people are justified.

This could also be fear mongering!! Why do they always talk about (seems like they promote them) problems and not solutions???
