I have lots of instrument names. plastic clarinet- Benny (after Benny Goodman.. duh!) wooden clarinet- Willamina bass guitar- Morgaine tin whistle- Seamus
This subject came up in a post a few months back. My answer is still the same as it was then! I have a fender strat - I call it "my strat" I have a gibson SG - I call it "my SG" I have an acoustic, I call it "my acoustic six" I have a 12string acoustic - I call it....well you must get the point. I never saw the point in naming an instrument. I am plenty attached to my axe without naming it. I do have a friend who has an acoustic named Velulla, but only because an ex painted that on it in a drug induced stupor!
how many of the instruments named themselves? and do you really use that name? I don't use my drum's "name" and simply refer to the mid-djembe (mid sized) and the bag of toys.
Haha, I named my Marcie because I believe guitars are typically feminine when it comes to males playing them and vice versa. On top of that, she reminds me of a tomboyish kinda personality, (ahaha... no offense, though) in the sense that she looks pretty, but she has a lot of faults in the electronics that seem masculine, and she has a strong tone. Gotta love those Gibson Burstbuckers and Seymour Duncan '59s... well, one of each. I named my Guild 12 string Rae because that's meg's middle name (moonjavaseed), because she's my favorite person that I know (both online and offline) and I wanted to have a reason to think of her every time I picked up my guitar, haha. I call my strat Sage or Jade because it seems very earthy and bare, but feminine and lighter than the tone of most strats, at the same time. On top of that, it's green. Isabel is my Martin D-35. I named it that because the guitar arrived via UPS (I bought it from master luthier Randy Wood, one of the founders of GTR/Gruhn Guitars in Nashville) the day Hurricane Isabel made landfall, September 18th, I believe, 2003. Kept me company along with my stereo for about two weeks while power was out here and I was out of school.
I know, it depends, that's just how I've came across mine. It may change someday. Each guitar has a different personality, that's like saying is going to hell for being gay or lesbian. I just haven't found a guitar that seems male. Now, if Marcie was a solid colored strat, yeah, she would be a male. I just think this is too pretty to be a male... but she has a male personality. Kind of a like a best friend, you know. Btw, I lost a few bridge pins... heh. Rep;aced them with a new set of bone pins, now.
Odd I dont consider my Guitar (Dark Light) ether male or female. Its like Drak Light is more playful than my dad's guitar (I sound really stupid) wile my dad's seems to demand a good player.IM GOING MAD
my guitar: Clapton my organ: Rick (after the organist for Yes) my harmonica: Roger (after Roger of the Who) my recorder: Ian (after Ian of Jethro Tull) my other guitar: Jimi (gee...who?) my mandolin, other harmonica, and violin don't have names yet.
My red epiphone SG was christened Raphael. it a male, definately. i dunno about my acoustics though... in the end i refer to them as electric, steel, or classical/nylon when i need to adress them lol
