One of those bastards was in my patch of grass. I was hearing a ton of knocking outside, thought it may have just been a raccoon, but i still wanted to be sure. Got out of the house and the first thing I felt was agony centred on a tiny point on my foot. Won't be barefooting for a while, just so it can heal without any issues. Doctor says it shouldn't be too bad. Get your tetanus shots people. Good night.

Ouch.Get well soon. BTW once I got a nail while wearing boots, it was sticking out of a wood board and passed all the way through the rubber sole.

Nails are unforgiving. Just take care of the wound and you’ll be back to being barefoot soon. Get well.

The Barefoot Professor: Stepping on Nails

I cant find the article I first read but he said its better to step on a nail barefoot then with shoes and have all the bacteria from the shoe get pushed in by the nail when it sticks through the shoe.

Bummer! I suppose it could have been worse. Take care of it and get back to being bare as soon as possible.

Bitten or stepped on something ?

I have been a little more careful. Such as doing barefoot walk at night on the street. Or at least not without my flashlight like I used to.

Current events got me worried and a little more cautious .

    Nails are bad enough.
I came within a hair of stepping on a 2" long deck screw that was sticking straight up through a piece of plywood.
In my own backyard no less.
The chisel point and aggressive threads would have shredded my foot.

I still shudder thinking about it.

A nail board is a great home defense weapon

OK crash through the front door but how are you going to get across some anchored 4x8 sheets of plywood nails sticking up ?

thats like middle ages stuff but it would work

I think it is more dangerous to step on a nail while shod than while barefoot. While shod, you're not aware of the danger until the nail pops through the sole and into your foot. While barefoot, you can feel the point before you put all your weight down, and refrain from stepping all the way down. Not perfect: If you're walking briskly or running, you will impale your foot.

Most of all, you WATCH. YOUR. STEP. because you don't have a false sense of invulnerability.

I read somewhere that in the Vietnam war the sandal wearing Vietnamese when stepping on a land mine usually lost their toes in the blast, while the feet of US soldiers were ripped away at the ankle, combat boot and all. Protection as everything is a relative concept.

I've been told that if something really heavy falls on your toes while wearing steel toed boots, your toes will be sheared off...whereas with regular boots they'll be crushed but repairable.

ok but that probably they are a good idea on a construction site, will save your toes from anything lighter than a 1T concrete block .

Barefoot you watch you step wile with shoes its easier to get careless and step on a nail sticking out of a board.

I try so hard to promote bare footing I am glad I just discovered it . It did enrich my life.

Yeah...true. One T block! That would likely crush your whole body...never mind your toes!
