I wanted to post pictures of my newest craft - wands. I made these out of a contorted filbert I have in my front yard and crystals I picked up in Arizona when I lived there, except for the moonstone in the end of one and the pyrite in the curve of one of the others. I am very happy with the way they turned out. I am going to do more as the tree needs pruning. Hope yall like them? All three of them: Close up: . Another one close up:
those are soooo cool. Have you thought about making walking sticks the same way? Those would be awesome too!
Thanks, guys! The tree hasn't yielded anything big enough for a walking stick yet, but wouldn't that be cool!?!
i made a wand once..but iw as little & obsessed with harry potter so i went out got a twig carved it & painted it with clear nail polish..........
Very cool stuff Missy TARA!! I have a great alter piece I got from a brother awhile back. Those would be a great addition.
How did you attatch the stone? if you want a more organic way of attatching them rather than glue, use some hemp thread or parhaps a coresponding metal (one whos magick properties work well along side the wood type and stone) and wire wrap them on.
I think I will try Fleassy's idea and use some copper wire to help bind the end around the crystals that are sticking out of the ends of the branches. Me and a girl friend up here are going to be experimenting with wire wrapping crystals. It might be interesting if I could combine the two crafts. All the wands that I've seen like I have done, all looked insetted with glue, so that's what came to mind when I started. I've given all of these away, but I have new branches drying, so hopefully some will be just right to make new ones!
Here is a couple of just the crystal end to show you what he did. Sorry the pics aren't better. I will post a few of the piece in my gallery. He went all out on wrapping his. I like the simple beauty of yours and I think it will make an amazing contrast. The pic isnt clear, but he also added shells to that end that are done into the wiring.
If yer gonna wrap, invest in some good pliers, the curvy one and a good needle nose, or you will be cuuuussin'.......
I am soooo glad you said that, because after seeing your other one, I was alittle embarrassed about mine. But, anyway, it's on it's way. I hope you enjoy!
pfft~ More isn't always better. Yours has such natural beauty that large embellishments aren't needed, it would just detract. The wrap on the other one IS the piece more than whats wrapped.
^ Well, this weekend , I was looking at the branches I have drying and there will be some good ones for this, so I will let you know when a new bunch is ready. I'd be happy to give you one. I've already given away the ones I've made so far. But they were so much fun to make and I'm so happy with how they turned out on my first attempt, that there will be more, for sure!
