is getting very old. Her feathers are looking tufted and peaked sticking up on her head. I have seen this a few times now with previous parakeets, and then they do not live too much longer, but I hope Ollie will hang on longer and prove me wrong.. This has been a sadness for me. I hate to lose any member of my family here.....and I cried when I saw Sunshine, my pale yellow young male parakeet bird ...he nuzzles up to Ollie with his head on her back...comforting her and keeping her warm. What a beautiful thing to see, too.....
I Couldn't Go To Town For Three Days After I Lost My Cat Liam At Twenty Two Years And Five Months, Pets Are Indeed A Big Part Of The Family... Cheers Glen.
There is a vet on the corner of a town my family in Aus live on and we had our dog put down there when he was too old. I can't even look at the place when I'm driving past it when I come to visit. Cannot look at the thing. Refuse to.
I have lost so many pets in the last 10 years It never gets easier. I am so tired of it. Speaking of fish, I once had an aquarium of fresh water, and my favorite fish was one named Barney. I cannot remember exactly what kind of fish he was, but he was odd, very shy and used to play peek a boo with me...peek out behind the big rock thing in the tank...catch my eyes and then duck back. He did this all of the time, and I was in love with that fish. Some disease got into the tank and killed all of my fish one by one. I was so heartbroken, and resolved never to have a tank again. I blamed myself that I did something wrong, and they are so fragile. I did not feel expert enough and that is why I won't have any more fish, as I am not an expert on the care of them.
Fish are tricky moony =[ I'll be sent to hell for the amount of fish I've murdered =[ I had a tropical tank once but I never understood how to keep the tank. I overfilled it.. Put too many chemicals in etc. it never worked. I stopped for 4 years then I bought a big 3ft aquarium and decided to progress very slowly with it. I cycled it for a week without adding fish. I then added one fighting fish and he was so small in there but he loved it. We slowly introduced others and just left the thing alone to do it's thing. We have two sucker cat fish that help clean it along with red tail shark. Now that I understand what's involved I'm thinking I'll get a bigger tank soon. =]
moony, huh? lol.... Does not sound like murder though....you had the same thing I did. Lack of expertise, sounds like.....I did feel blameful of myself, though.
and with my fiasco, it was a new fish I introduced into the tank, I am pretty certain...must have been sick and made all of the others sick, as they all started getting sick and dieing after the new fish came.....now, how does one know if a small fish is diseased or not?
Moony has cuteness appeal ^.^ some people have been calling me Irmy =] Yep, a sick fish will do that. Happened to me too, had a silver shark and it looked okay but under light it had all the white spots. Then a day later all my fish had white spots so we had the malachite green chemical we put in, it killed most of the small fish but the larger ones survived. Also had one trumpet snail once from a fish shop, I thought okay cool it'll do what snails do.. I guess. Yeah, right. Within time the while bottom was moving with snails -.-
Yes that is why i kept the original snail I got for free. But with time they become pests because they keep laying eggs and reproducing. Sure they do clean the tank, but so do the catfish. When I moved into my house I let the gravel and snails soak in really hot water and I hoped that'd be the end of them so when I saw a snail on the glass last weekend I was mortified. I hit it with a hammer =] and have not seen any since though of course all of their trumpet shells were still in the gravel and you see them when you look but then.. they are gone =0 so I would not be surprised if more are alive and laying eggs..
Well with my other aquarium the final straw wasn't a hammer, it literally exploded on me when I moved into another house. I was filling it all back up in the middle of winter and I guess the warm water made a crack, I was just about to leave too and I heard this crack and then a lot of cracks and rushing water and I was nooooooo it was all over the floor =(
Iv'e Had Fish Tanks For Well Over 40 Years And Never Had A Leak, But When It Comes To Water Beds, Just Don't Ask... Cheers Glen.
Aww, I had a parakeet named Sunshine too! I had two of them, named them Sunshine and Happiness. One was yellow the other was blue. Somebody stole one of them, along with my air conditioner. One of the worst violations there is .. breaking into someone's house. Anyway, I called them parakeeps because I loved them so much and I wanted to keep them forever. Parakeets are great birds.
Ollie died yesterday I found her lying at the bottom of the cage yesterday morning.... Poor Sunshine was yelling for her for awhile. He kept her alive longer than she might have lived, I think. He was nuzzling underneath her the other day to hold her up, his head was supporting her from underneath.........as she was getting weaker...poor little Olllie.....I put her body in the peony garden by the stream here.
I wanted to play this song by Prince here, as it is awesome by him, but there is no version on u-tube of it by Prince.....that is curious, now isn't it?...so this is the best cover I could find of it in the short time I looked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb7UUUMQ1q4"]London Exchange-When Doves Cry ( Official Video) - YouTube
Sorry to hear about Ollie, Moonshine. It sounds like you gave her a good long life in a good home though. And it's good that she had Sunshine with her too. Hope you can be ok through this hard time, we are with you. :grouphug:
