I started my dreadlocks about 2 weeks ago with the backcomb and crochet hook method, I have very fine straight but THICK hair. I had bands at the tips and roots but took them out about a week ago. Washed them 3 times already. But the problem is is that i have loose hair everywhere and some of the dreads are only like an inch where it feels dreaded and then the rest feels unraveled or something. I cant tell if this is normal or if my dreadlocks are just not tight enough to even lock down the road if my dread person didn't do them tight enough? Honestly my hair is so poofy sometimes you cant even tell i have dreadlocks just by looking at me, but dont get me wrong if you actually go through my hair you can feel the dreadlocks and their sections just fine. idk its weird. advice?

Hard to tell what's going on/if they are tight enough without seeing/feeling them. Photo might help. At the beginning every time you wash your hair your dreads will loosen up a bit, my initial backcomb fell out nearly completely after the first wash. They need time to form. I've had mine for 4.5 years and I have LOADS of loose hair everywhere. Even at the back of my neck, which I was sure is going to dread up, since I sleep on my back.

Dont panic! Starting dreadlocks can be a worrying/frustrating experience at first. they will loc up nicely as long as you wash them regularly. all you need to do is keep the hair clean and gently pull the dreads separate from each other after each wash to prevent roots matting together.

Because i havent had my dreads long either after each wash they get super fluffy but after a day or so they will tighten back up. It just takes time be patient and enjoy the ride :bandana:

It's going to take a few months for actual knots to form all the way from roots to tips. You gotta just chill and let your hair do its thing for a while... unless you want to waste a bunch of time/money screwing around with your hair to give it merely to appearance of being in locks.
