Of course it's gonna be easier to sleep when you've been smokin weed. That's part of what makes it so wonderful. The munchies are another thing that makes it so wonderful. Weed makes you hungry and sleepy, so obviously both your eating and sleeping patterns are gonna be thrown off when you're not smoking. It's not a "problem".....it's just an adjustment. You have to get used to sleeping and eating again without the help of marijuana. That would be the same with anyone, even after only a week of smoking.

I agree with hebrew on some points...

All of you guys who say " weed is not for everyone " ...I would like to remind you of the fact that once you find out that weed is not for you... it's already too late!!

OK... you guys who smoke and become more functional are to be considered very lucky... Unfortunatly most ppl are not like that... many tend to get addicted, it's rare to find a heavy weed smoker who can handle it properly and be perfectly functional (tbh I've seen people who work more efficiently when high, they are rare though) , but I think it's unfair for the people who cant handle weed to ruin the fun for other guys ( who can handle it).

Hebrew you are one of those who cant handle weed in high quantities not everyone is like you...I dont think you should say that weed is bad in general...

I think it is bad for some people... only problem is that sometimes the only way to find out is the hard way...

Still overall if you ask me what is better "smoking" or "not "smoking" ?
    I would say not smoking...

thanks "sexual pervert" for agreein with me on some points, i knew i wasnt sayin shit that wasnt true, u kno?

I never said that weed is BAD. I dont think weed is bad in general, or at all. I just think it becomes bad once its abused, and many ppl these days underestimate it as a drug, and deny the way it changes them. I mean for 6 monthes i was high all the time, i knew i was a stoner but i was happy with it. i didnt have a problem with it at all. I accepted it, and i didnt look at it in a bad way. but in reality my family notcied i changed, my freinds did, and basicly everyone else the knows me noticed it at well. Its not just ME who changes from marijuana abuse, u kno??? its just some ppl think its an acceptable price to pay. I on the other hand dont. But im not sayin im never gonna smoke weed again lol. Theres nothing better than puffin on a fat blunt every once in a while;) but reallllllly not plannin on doing it more than like 10-15 times a YEAR ...

I'd say that weed changes SOME people.
Some people do have BAD reactions to it.
Some people probably shouldn't smoke pot.
Life is a balance. If something is bringing you more bad than good, you probably shouldn't be doing it.
And for some people, smoking pot will do just that. But that's SOME people, just as with anything. You gotta know yourself. =]

I commend anyone who's smoking pot was bringing them negativity and they quit, all for it.
But saying that pot is evil or terrible or just plain bad across the board is untrue.

this isn't so much a cautionary tale of horror to other potheads, rather it should serve to warn you that you might not be suited to excessive smoking. I wouldn't impose an arbitrary rule like "max 15 times a year" on myself, "every once in a while" sounds about right though.

I'm glad you've learned that it is possible for weed to take over your life, but it affects different people in different ways. good luck to ya though man.

u seem to have a really addictive personality... just like alot of people who are just predisposed and susceptible to that psychological trait of being easily addicted, we basically all have it, who wouldnt want to keep doing something that gives euphoria and all those other lovely feelings... and its not just a human trait.

well now u atleast know what its like being on the edge, and how easy it is to fall to an addiction and just how hard it can be to stop something u feel the need to have. u gave way to easily, when it got abused daily and u made it ur top priority thats when u should of realized something was wrong. keep that in mind for any other substances u use.

THC stores in fat tissues, same is true for alot of other drugs, including prescription. that residue can mobilize back into the blood stream triggering a craving for it. thats when U start feeling shitty and want to hop right back in there, its up to U on how strong ur willpower is. its true it can change u, anything can change u. coffee can screw with ur head, caffeine is really addicting in almost everyone. they get mad withdrawal if they dont have they're cup in the morning. heres an example... my dad didnt have any coffee for 2 days. he feels like shit. lol.

its U who made weed fuck up things. its U who chose to keep on doing it. its ur body... it doesnt mean were gonna feel like u did... cannabis has been used in the treatment of alcoholism and addiction to other drugs such as heroin and the prevention of migraines. lol

just because weed was/ is used to treat other stuff doesnt mean anything. im not against weed, and i know it benifits the users who are fighting some diseases and other stuff.... Cocaine was also used medically, and the same is with most of the other drugs lol...

the thing is i never got addicted, like i used to do it 3-4 times a week for a long time, and i never CRAVED it like if i took a week off i was totally fine, but when i moved in with my freinds and i started smoking daily, i just thought to myslef its not gonna b that hard to quit since EVERYONE was like weed "isnt a drug" weed "isnt really addicting" smoking weed is "better" than not smoking weed....ALL THAT IS B.S... and i knew it wasnt true, its not like i fell for what ppl are saying, but with my past experiance and all the other ways society makes weed looks like osmething that cant harm a person, i thought whats the WORST that can happen. IT REALLY CAN SCREW SOMEONE UP, I HOPE YOU NEVER GET TO THAT POSITION. i learned from my mistakes and im never abusin anything again lol...EVER. just so you guys know the two-three weeks of withdrawal that i felt was by far one of the worst times of my life...i felt like i completely lost myself for such a long time, and now that im back to "reality" everything is unrecognizable different, like in a way that idk how to act in a society, i lost my personality completely, and i was burnt the fuck out...after a like 3-5 days after quittin i didnt even CRAVE weed anymore, i started questioning reality, and like existance EVERY SINGLE NIGHT it was terrible, I knew a hard ass time was awaiting me b4 i felt NORMAL again, and i was right! i felt like ass with shit smeared all over it lol.it truely was terrible. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE ANY DRUG/ OR ABUSE ANY DRUG.

Do I regret trying weed? NO.
Do I regret smoking weed daily? YES.
Do I regret smoking weed as a way to escape my problems? Most Defintely.
Do I Hate weed? Absoloutely not.
Will i smoke again? Yes. (VERY VERY Seldomly, once a month; maybe)
Do I Blame the Drug? No. I blame myself.

Well, this is the problem. Stoners take shit too far. EVERYTHING in moderation. Had you done it in moderation I'm sure you wouldn't be at this point right now.

    Good thread a few things...

those ppl that said the withdraw or addiction is just "all in your head" might not realize that THC is a foreign chemical and causes cascades of chemical (many hormonal) changes in the body which will no doubt affect the ways you feel. Why do you think you feel high...because your brain chemistry is altered...just like it is altered when THC has been in it for a long time reinforcing all these biochemical cycles and then suddenly removed....the high is not "just imagined" and neither are things due to chronic (pun intended) use.

I've been wanting to quit for quite a while but I can't because I am depressed. In stages of life where I don't feel depressed its very easy not to smoke...in fact i don't want to most of the time. but when I get depressed thats when I start smoking, and its always in exceess, its either all or nothing.

Right. You get so used to being stoned that you just don't feel right when you're not; hence......a psychological addiction. You say it's not just "all in your head" and then prove yourself wrong. No physical withdrawal symptoms. It's all purely psychological. After you get used to not being stoned all the time, your mind readjusts, and you begin to feel normal again without it. At least, some of us do. For the rest of us, regardless of how long we go without smoking, we just don't feel normal.

I get depressed when I don't smoke for a while too, but my depression began before I ever started smoking, in the first place. Were you depressed before you started smoking?

I have experienced some of the same physical withdraw symptoms already mentioned, loss of appetite, irritability, insomnia etc. nothing serious and they faded after a few days but definitley there. saying that an addiction is purely psychological and not physiological implies the existence of a soul or some immaterial component to the body. All behavior and feeling is the results of a physically existing matter called the brain. Love...the feeling you get when you are in love is even explainable (maybe not fully explainable but at least correltatable) in terms of changes in neurochemistry. Thats the point I'm trying to get across people that feel weird when they stop smoking weed feel like that because of a physical reason.

No I wasn't depressed before I started but that was about 6 years ago. My depression is totally pinpointable and due to a certain life circumstance that comes and goes as does the depression.

I smoked a blunt today after 3-4 monthes of quitting and saw the moive "street kings" and i got to admit, it was fun! but after going through all the withdrawal syptoms i went through, it just seems not worth it. IDK weed is shady....idk if smoking is better than not smoking, even lookin at 24 hour time span. You get high, your really high for like 15-20 mintues and then your body/ regular not CRAZY high for like 40-45 mintues, and then you feel wiered all day. overall idk if the the chemical changes in your body/ brain that it causes is worth the hour and half high feeling which isnt always that great. after being a stoner for so long, and quitting for so long i can honestly say that being sober is more enjoyable. I feel way more "down to earth" and in control, also, im im way more confident in myself when im not stoned...just when i look at it and "do the math" i feel like weed isnt somethin really want to waste my time on often...i dont think its worth it however when the time is absoulutely right like im chillin on the beach at sunset with a girl or something, and the its warm out, i would deff blaze a joint or something, but im never gettin close to it in a sense were i will crave it/ buy it/ or ever care about it like i used to.

its like a lover that fucked around with me and then cheated and kicked me out of the house hahaha

yea dude i agree that the high is not that great when you are smoking on a regular basis, what I will say is that for me it is all about the transition from sober to high, right when I smoke, even if the high itself sucks. I don't know its like when i'm sober I want to get out of sobriety...its not that i like weed so much, its just the best option because it doesn't "fuck you up" in the sense alchohol does...like i can still keep going with my day and do whatever I want to do but I have escaped sobriety. its just the best option because other drugs are just to much of a high or too bad to be doing on a regular basis.

The loss of appetite, irritability, insomnia is all psychological. Like I said before, you get used to being stoned all the time and you get used to having the munchies, and you get used to going to sleep after having smoked some weed; all mental. After you quit smoking for a while, of course you're not gonna be as hungry because you don't have the munchies, you're not going to be as sleepy because you don't have to weed to make you relaxed and sleepy, and you're going to be irritable because you still WANT the weed......but you don't feel the physically NEED the weed. The same could be said about love, as you mentioned; after you've been around the person you love for so long, you won't feel right when you lose that person you love, which is also purely psychological, because you feel a psychological/spiritual connection to that person, which is the same of me and marijuana.....I actually LOVE marijuana, because it's been a MAJOR part of my life for over 9 years. Maybe that's causing me to seem a little irrational, but I also think I am speaking the truth.

It all has to do with your mind adjusting to not having something that has been a part of your life for so long, sometimes a HUGE part of your life. The longer you've been smoking or the longer you've been in love, the harder it is gonna be to get over it, because the weed/love is part of what makes you feel whole. Feel me?

Also, you say the high isn't as much fun if you've been smoking on a regular basis for long periods of time.....I've been smoking tons and tons of weed, sometimes all day everyday, for the passed 9 years, and I still enjoy it just as much as when I first started smoking. Weed has never let me down. I've been arrested for weed and am on probation for 12 months and have hella fines, but it was all worth it, because I understood before I got into the stoner lifestyle that all of that comes with the territory and you have to be willing to accept it if you're going to smoke weed. Totally worth all of the hassle. For me at least/

TopNotchStoner you've made some really great points in this thread. I agree with you on most of your ideas. I mean, its natural to have insomnia after you stop smoking because you are used to being stoned at night. I smoke almost every night and I find it harder to fall asleep with weed than without.

If you compare weed to say coke or heroin, there is no physical withdrawal symptoms that those drugs have. Quitting coke cold-turkey gives you nauseas, vomiting, chest pain, massive headaches, tremors, sweating and heart palpations. You don't get any of those side effects with weed. Not to mention drugs like heroin consume people, they don't eat, sleep, crap or do anything when they use these drugs.

Obviously if you are going to smoke weed multiple times a day you will get used to being stoned but that doesn't make quitting a hard thing. you just have to take it one day at a time.

I'm with TopNotch on this one.
    It's all psychological.

But I also must say, yes, weed can change a person, and of course there are bad effects to it.

dude you people have no idea what you are talking about you need to go to your local university's library and read some scientific journal articles on marijuana's physiological effects. ...everything you feel as a result of weed including the high itself and the mild withdraw symptoms is the result of altered body chemistry...not some trick your mind is playing on you.
