Well... I'm not HUGE on Zeppelin... but, it was because Jimmy Page was in the Yardbirds before he was in Zeppelin. When the Yardbirds disbanded, he was kinda left with the band name, and got together a new crew, who became the "New Yardbirds" who became "Led Zeppelin". The name idea came from Keith Moon I think... either him or Entwistle. I forget, but that version of the story is close enough.
