I've been meaning to do a thread on this very subject.

I've noticed that folks say that % of brown hairs etc. is what to look for....Not!>O

I'll take some pics tonite when the lights come on to show what I'm trying to say. If one harvests by %'s one will miss out on what I call bulking up of the buds.

After the first 'browning' there will be a few days while new bud grows from the stalk out, to show fresh white hairs this goes on for a couple of weeks or 'till ya can't wait any longer !>P

Anywho I've got a couple of plants in this stage and will post some pics tomorrow!>D

This is an area of debate. For a continual grown strain that matures around 10 weeks you need to pick samples and observe them under a lil microscope. The sample can be a bud leaf with trichomes on it. RadioShack sells a little pocket microscope for ~$10 or so. Watch the trichome heads as they turn from clear -> cloudy -> amber. You will see that they do change in relative progression of the buds hairs turning red. You can time harvest by using the 70-75% hair method but it is a "ballpark" guess. If you are growing from clones you will be able to time it exact eventually.

I would not stop watering unless you were a couple of days from harvest - it is an unconfirmed urban legend. For example hydroponics rely on water - and the potency is quite nice. BUT the 24 hours + darkness does have merit. I have even read it recommended on a pack of White Widow seeds. I wouldn't worry about it as much as trying to harvest immediatly when the lights click on (that is when the plant begins its water uptake) best time to cut and run! :)

Its like cooking every cook has a tweak or special ingredient.

I hear you on the $ part, been there my Brother.

The amber trichomes (trichomes past their cloudy ripe state btw) tend to induce a more sedated feeling (CBDs = sleepy) while the clear is more of an up "head high". After a few crop cycles you will see that a week can make a difference in the feel. There will even be differences in the upper vs. lower buds (lower buds tends to mature a little slower).

    Just an amazing plant.

mmmm money is the devil the makes the world tick shamefully :( so do u recon it would pay 2 top say the top half of ur plant n let the bottom half mature a little longer but that would throw the 3 days dark out the window lol cranial overload i think 2 much bout weed if only i could focus my mind on work as well as weed i be a millionaire i tells ya millionaire!!! :) hehe then i would hav a lush garden:D

You can do that. The extra time will allow the lower popcorn buds to mature more.

As said before I wouldn't worry too much about the full 2 days of darkness. Some claim it works some say the % increase is negligable.

Keep it simple and straight forward and aim for a solid harvest. You can always experiment later.

You will be pleased no matter what as long as they make it to the finish line :)

If you continue just save up for a set of bubble bags. <- you will thank me later :)

My experiments have shown that, topping the cola opens lower buds to more light so that they may mature at their own pace. That doesn't mean that they get as large as the original cola but they bulk up better than harvesting the whole plant at once. Also after taking the colas we are able to lower the lights to get at those pesky little popcorn buds and turn em into respectable Buds!

As you say I'm pretty laid back, so another bonus is That I don't have to trim huge piles of bud all at the same time=>D
