My First Grow.... (Item 9)

Yea I got the seeds but I'm delaying the germination a day or two just so I can make sure everything is in place and make sure I'm ready for anything!!! I'm reading everything I can!! Any recomendations? I will do pics of the germ tomorrow... Damn I'm so nervously excited!! I can't wait!!!

 

DDAY IS HERE!!!!!!

Day 1 (September 10th, 2009) 10:35pm (22:35)

I have set aside 4 of my 15 item 9 seeds and commenced germination just about 5 hours ago (5:26pm)!! I made a SCROG screen out of a hanger and some fishing line and mounted my lights with some scrap cardboard!! As soon as i got my seeds into the paper towels and on the plates I went over to my Bob Marley flag and asked Mr.Marley to bless me with all beautiful females and to watch over and protect my seeds as those grow and mature!!! haha I then played and sang redemption song to my seeds for further incuragement!! lol but now its a waiting game i just checked my paper towel and it is still moist to the touch. I moved the fan to the outside of the box blowing in for two resons 1) thats more space for my girls
2) the box seems to have better airflow, with the fan outside.
I will wait till about 12 and check on my seeds and make sure they don't need water and then go to bed. I will check them again at 5 and 7 when i get up and before i leave. because i will not get home before about 12 tomorrow night. and when i get home i will imediantly give them water and look for sprouts. hoping for sprouts by saturday/sunday night. Wish me luck here are some updated pics.... I will try to post new pics every 3/4 days i'm so damn excited that i might get them every 2 haha but i will try not to be just ridiculess with it haha but hey i'm a new father can you blame me!! lol here are 4 pics...

Yep exciting aint it? All them hopes and dreams packed in one tiny seed and the fact they grow is pretty amazing too. If ya can keep the temps down to under 80F will help ya fem count anyway good luck.

 

have you thought of a way to cover the scent yet?

 

Rock: Yea, i had herd this before and my room/den area are always set to the 70's durring the day the lower range of 73-72 and the evening around 78-80 so i have no problem with that!!! and i understand what your saying about the seed thing.. i mean to think that a 5ft tall magic herd yeild crop of the gods can come from something the size of a house fly.. its mind blowing just to think about sober!! oh! and I have made a pact not to smoke until i smoke my girls!!!! just to make it that much more envigorating!!!!!! i can't wait it'll take love, tender care, and time lots of time, but i am willing to give!!!

Sunflower: I'm not really worring too too much about the smell... i mean sure you can notice i but i think since my closet is closed and the minimal number of plants in there... combined with the fact that i am normally the only one that makes extended stays down here (more than 30 min) i will be ok... if anything i'll get some incense or a candle/air spray and blame it for the funk haha in fact i think i will somewhat enjoy the aroma of Item9 in the morning!!

 

good luck mang! i remember that nervous excitement feeling............just wait........if you decide to stick with growing and you start building bigger each grow and before you know it your rockin multiple HID's, multiple plants, big fans and filters..........talk about nervous excitement!!!

 

If only I was that fortunate haha!!!

Ok.. SUPERSTEALTH MODE ENGAGE!! Well long story short my parents are getting my texts messages... And I'm fucked!!! Anyway.. Well I've had silent pride about my babies except for one getting the seeds and two getting advice from a friend that grows... So anyway I can make it out that they already took my seeds I had them hidden in my tin can from dip.. But they really did take it haha they don't know it either... But anyway I am movie my box into this other closet space I'll post pics tonight...

 

Day 4 (22:01) 10:01pm September 13th

Alright... that last post was a bit... rushed haha but everything has calmed down now.. anyway i had 4 seeds that were put aside to germinate before the others got thrown away (its cool i have more) and 3 of those baby's germinated... i have them put into their cups and they are under the lights in the box and i watered them.... now starts the intense waiting... ugh.. i almost can't stand it... but anyway.. i'm ready i'm going 24 hours of light as opposed to 18/6 just because the way i see it is light is needed for photosynthesis and photosynthesis is used to grow... so more light more growth!!! thats my reasoning!!! pics are below.. i'm deff paying for my own phone from now on!! i can use the money im not buying weed with haha!!
I already have names picked out for them if they are girls and i sang them a lullaby before i put them to rest for the night!! haha :hat:

DAY 6 (21:38) 9:38pm

Ok, so this being my first grow its kind of touch and go for me. About an hour ago I went to check on my babies and then water them if need be, and another one of my precious plants have died!!! but this was due to me placing it to close to the surface... but now i know! I have 2 plants thriving now... one is really picking up! It is 1/4in tall with 2 super green looking leafs!!! so i have now lost half of my crops..... but you know think possitives.. i probably killed the 50% of the males haha so fingers crossed i have all females.. now can i ask a question for whomever has the information.. Is there a way i can clone using just water? I mean... something totally organic no chemicals no additives pure h2o or soil? i have searched and read about a method like this... but has anyone used it?

 

dude..the rooting solution needed here is 5 bucks at any garden department even walmart..they make it from willow trees...you can make it yourself but the store bought stuff is best
Another solution is willow water. Taking limbs/leaves from a willow tree and soaking in water for a couple of days or more, then use the water for rooting. Willow contain IBA and was the original rooting method. Plants are either set in the water for a few days, or the water is used directly on the plant... got the above from a garden bog,,its all over the net

 

Hmmm... Intresting... I may try this with a willow tree my neighbor has...

 

cloning works with water alone if the lighting is on low intensity 24/7.. otherwise it will not work very well..
The idea is to get perlite, pre soak it and fill a bowl with it( leave wet but not soaking wet)... take cutting and dip in /rootone2oz.jpg available at Home depot, or similar rotting product.. water them in the perlite with a few drops of fresh water every couple days/
The perlite will help suspend the stem and hold it firmly for it to gain roots, under a 24/7 light , or 18/6 if you dont have extra room just use the vegie cycle current plants are under..

dont over complicate stuff..

 

No comment i thought i knew how 2do cutting before this year lol. Some strains clone really well others dont clone or prone to damping. Make sure ya sterilize everything including the water ya use. Just my normal soil mix and dipping in rooting powder then placed in the shadow of there parents till they pick up.
Hey anybody know about or does scratching of the stems before dipping in rooting powder??

 

the old way though still the most common way.. Is to cut with sharp scissors and put immediately in water/ take a second cutting under the water. {these 2nd cutting have always thought to be unnecessary.. dip in powder and place in medium.. Best to have the stem wet, that way the powder sticks to the cutting...

 

i use 'gel'...sticks to the stem nice and gave me really good results with 3 strains....i use a blade instead of scissors and cut on an angle....peat balls worked fine..i like them because you can SEE the roots pop through and you can tell when they are ready without a dought

Day 8 (21:59) 9:59pm September 17th, 2009
OK. So I just checked my plants today and.. sadly I think I am losing another plant. It may be root rot. I have been watering every 2-3 days and it seems that one of my two plants has slightly higher water retentiouncy*sp this has led to me having one thriving springy basterd of a plant and another one that is about 65% smaller (that also seems to have a "mushy" stem that can't support itself). No complaints, I'm not giving up because it might not be root rot, but I'm getting more seeds tomorrow and maybe germing atleast one more. Anyway, I have one plant that is my pride and joy! After 4 days in the soil this little baby had grown 1 1/4inches!! I have thus named this beautiful little fucker Marley!! Hopefully Shiva will see it in her graces to allow this little one to grow and blosom under her protection into a large herb yeilding beauty!!! It has 2 leaves at the top (one slightly longer than the other) and it is a great green colour!! I am not the least bit worried about Marley growing kinda funky... she can grow which ever way that makes her happy because my motto for this grow is "Happy weed is potent weed"
so... no worries about losing 3 plants, I will remember them dearly! but look towards the good!!! And as for the whole "what if it's a male" I will use it for some killer hash you know? haha so as for my thoughts now.. I feel good in my knowledge so far, I have learned a lot. Thanks everyone for all the advice and what not.... You have helped a ton!!

 

Sounds like damping off to me (over watering and high humidity) get ya self an anti fungus treatment and never re use the soil and clean pots and do not cross containinate between your plants. plants that damp off and live tend to be smaller and dont make good cloners imo coz there prone to it.
