The smoke blew east. As far east as it could. It layered the skies like the omen of death it was, warning those beneath its cold underworld to flee before the fires reached them. She headed west. Her legs carried her so far. Always so far. They began to ache more now. Water was not all she needed, but walking among the Earthen forests and landscapes void of other human life she was refreshed. In these years she was alone, and in this time she could connect to the roots that society had always tempted to sever. The winding road was guided by the sun. In the morning, it rose behind her, illuminating her path through a shadow world. In the evening, it sank low to the ground, a glowing destination. For now she crept and weaved in the outskirts of the known. She was mystery, like the forest. She was elusive, like the wind. It came and went. By what paths does the breeze take through the sky? Invisible, yet steady and certain, sure to arrive where it must be. She thought. She thought few things these days. Much of her life was of feeling, seeing, living. In perhaps a twisted irony, she enjoyed it. To her, life in this world was given a second chance. Human life, that is. Let us not forget the grace of the mother that bore us . . . Though wounded, we are not to die - not if we do not choose death.
Hey all, Just wanted to say I'm still alive . . And this is going to continue. I must finish what I start. Also, I'm thinkin about publishing it . . . Is it publishing worthy? I intend to add artwork, maps, etc to enrich the story. What's everyone think?
Most definately, shaman sun, you're a very talented writer. You may want to check out 'critique circle' for some feedback, though. They tend to concentrate on the fine aspects of writing and they can help you with proofreading it. Obviously, there are a handful of clueless philistines there, like everywhere else in this peculiar world, but I think you're mature enough to sort out what's useful to you from the garbage. Good luck. If I was a publisher I wouldn't hesitate to print your story.
