YEAH AS USUAL. he calls me worthless cause i smoke everyday day and shit. He thinks just because he has a job he's all high and mighty and better than me and shit when he's an addict. He smokes weed too. not much anymore cause he's too busy blowing OC but he used to smoke all day every day but it was okay because he had a job.
your friend sounds like a control and probably doesn't want her perfect life to change. Probably why she totally hated on your awesome pledge to join the peace corps. Just tell her....not everybody can live a perfect life like her's and that your leaving to help those people. If she can't understand that, then I would say fuck off you ignorant bitch
I don't think she was specifically out to fuck with you, she was just drunk and rambling. She probably doesn't want you leaving if you've known each other for a really long time. Other people are always going to have different opinions on what you should do, I say fuck their opinions. What's the point in living someone else's life? I don't really care what my life is, as long as I'm happy. Even if I can find happiness in being a bum with no money, then that's what I would rather be, even over a millionaire with everything, but no happiness.
Ya, like I said, I'm going to do whatever the hell I want.. but it's just really discouraging when your best friend who you trust to give you good advice tells you it's no good. I dunno, I'm sure she didn't mean it as rude as she said it because she was drunk.. but a drunk mind speaks a sober heart, so I know that deep down she probably means it.
Your best friend sounds like a yuppie who follows her parental advice far too closely. I bet she's doing exactly what her parents wanted her to do. Honestly, I don't know why the fuck you would ever want to live in the USA. I live maybe an hour from the USA border and frequent the USA at least 7-10 times a year on average. I have been to the USA at least a hundred times in my life - it's not like the rest of the world at all. I'm so sorry hun. I think you should join the peace corps - because Obama is fuckin' awesome and if anything it looks great on a resume!! I think what's going on here... your BF is projecting her fears onto you. She probably is afraid for her own career after university and is in the mindset that what she intents to do with herself applies in a cookie-cutter way for you. Don't take it too seriously. We all think we're right when we're in our 20s. Oh, and the next time someone talks to you about the "perfect dream" just recite something George Carlin said long ago: "They call it the American Dream because you have to be asleep to believe it." *extra huggles*
Sara, she probably feels like she would be a failure if she didn't jump start her career when she personally got out of college, having put herself through it and all. She's totally projecting onto you. You should turn the tables and project onto her. Tell her how much you want to enter a program and travel the world gaining experience. Talk about how much you're going to have fun traveling exotic countries and mingling with a variety of cultures and nature. Maybe you'll even get to teach in South America! OMG! You have so much to offer with your Spanish to these places! I can help you investigate tons of international exchange programs and volunteership programs out there - there are literally thousands of excellent ones. I have a friend who runs this program in Guatemala called "Many Efforts, One Goal": http://www.manyefforts.com/Home/Home.html They go on regular volunteer trips there and part of the funding is out of UConn. My mom is a high school Spanish teacher too, so if you ever need any advice or info on any of this exchange or academic stuff, you just ask me. Cheer up dear. I've got your back on this one.
Check out other volunteering: http://www.manyefforts.com/Volunteer_Guatemala.html http://www.volunteerabroad.com/search.cfm http://www.companeros.ca/ This one my prof recommends - http://www.volunteer.org.nz/ I'm doing this one next summer - http://www.intercordiacanada.org/ http://www.peacebrigades.org/ http://www.oneworlded.com/ You have a lot to offer to Latin America with your Spanish. It's a life-changing experience to go there as a volunteer.
Wow Sara, I couldn't imagine you being best friends with such a closed minded person.Don't let her get to you and do what ever the hell you want.I mean, as long as you have the support of your family, I think that's all that really matters. If she was a true friend, she'd support you even if they are no where near her goals.
It all simply depends what you value in life. No one can disagree when I say that our brains are wired to do things that will make us happy in the end. If helping people makes you happy, it's probably why you want to join the Peace Corp. Money makes me happy. I'm attending college and contemplating law school right now. This summer I'm working a full time job in an office and will probably continue working the same job part time when school starts. I don't really like work but at the end of the day it gives me a sense of accomplishment and not to mention the fact that it adds substantially to my paycheck. The thought of joining a volunteer service to help people around the world (and mostly in 3rd world countries, don't kid yourself) seems ridiculous. A college degree is the new high school diploma when it comes to getting a job and I've seen far too many friends "take a year off school" to only never come back and work a bunch of shitty ass jobs that lead nowhere because the chance of getting a decent paying job with the chance of promotion with only a high school diploma is very slim. I've done what I consider my share of volunteer work. I spent two weeks during the summer of my sophomore and junior year in high school building houses for the the poorest of the poor in Juarez, Mexico. I'm glad I got to see the world through that perspective but the reality I see is a world where money controls much of your life (whether you like it or not) along with the fact that we are rapidly evolving. Having no real religion myself, I see my life as a way to better society and advance the human race. Assuming you live in America, you can do almost whatever you please but please don't lose sight of what is going on around you. The years after high school are very important to your later life.
meh, some people are ethnocentric and really don't know what they're talking about. as far as the peace corps go...i'm pretty sure you need to have a 4 year degree to do that by the way.
Never give up on your Dreams! At least she was honest with you, so I would be honest back with her- Holding nothing back! I think your dreams are amicable and admirable and should be pursued if it is in your heart. i also thin your B/F could have said that because she doesnt want to see you go off on your own way. She is doing anything to keep you. Sometimes, it is hard to let a Dove (such as yourself) go. Hate to say goodbye But love watch things flow their own way. I have its 0-kay names!
I don't understand why you take her opinion seriously. Because she's your best friend I reckon but you even noticed yourself it is a nonsense opinion. Also, I don't think you should count on your best friend to support anything you do. It's much better to hear them express their real opinion (if they make no sense whatso ever may be a pity but yeah, she was speaking her mind).
she's just another person man. I could say "fuck the stupid peace corp. That's bullshit". But you wouldn't listen to me
she does seems misinformed. in my opinion Japan is way more developed than US. maybe i`m wrong. I still prefer Russia than US . but i guess US is great too...never been there, but hey you are famous!
The American dream is not all about having a family, white picket fence, and 2.5 kids. Its about bettering yourself in a way you see fit. I too will join the peace corps after college because there are people in this world that will NEVER have what I was lucky enough to have, and I want to help them. So don't listen to your close minded friend. Follow your heart to what will make you happy.
propaganda has infiltrated the lives of all of us, if you watch enough fox news cnn et al you'll come away with the belief that the world would not exist with out the good old USA. She can't help it, Flouride MSG Mercury Public schools and endless propaganda etc etc etc Don't hold it against her, most likely her thoughts are not her own. Peace Dan
