I think your comments would be appreciated in the thread in the general hippies forum. you don't like the idea of vegetarians, so go play with people you like.
Perhaps you don't speak for every vegetarian in this forum? You sound like a fascist, what would make you think I have a "problem" with vegetarians? You sound extremely defensive, maybe it's you who feel the vegetarian lifestyle is a waste.
your posting comments make me think you have a problem with vegetarian lifestyles. and lines like "You sound extremely defensive, maybe it's you who feel the vegetarian lifestyle is a waste." waste was YOUR word. MOD HAT NOW ON: you repeatedly make negative remarks when people ask for help being veg, and post a lot of off topic pro-meat stuff. That is outside the bounds of this vegetarian part of the HF community. mod hat off: I moved the (fairly good) why eat meat debate to a larger playpen, and I suggested, as a poster, that you go there. I could ask why you are so insecure in your diet that you have to proselytize about in in a vegetarian forum. here's a place you might appreciate more: www.smokingmeatforums.com/
You appear to be the only person who took offense to what I said, It was not meant in a demeaning way. Someone said that there 5 year old son felt heart broken over eating animals. I responded by saying I hope his guilt don't become a road block in his life. YOU are apparently the only person who felt the need to make a big deal out of it. I don't care if your a mod or not, you sound like a fascist. Grow up.
I'm sorry but could you two take your bickering elsewhere. This post was started to help someone who knew nothing about the vegetarian lifestyle to learn so she could help her young son with his wishes. Comments stating that you hope it is not a roadblock in his life is unneeded. If you haven't noticed, everyone else on here has posted food possibilities.
It's just a preference, like whether or not one likes brussel sprouts and liver. There is no need to demean people either way. And Leingod, GROW UP.
hmm i thought I had already replied to this... I was pretty young when I 1st thought meat just wasn't something I had the taste for-probably before I realized the animal connection..(my parents made me eat it -or at least taste meat on my plate-until I was around 11) My advice to ANYONE starting to eat more veg foods is to start with what you know. Start with what he already eats and THEN branch out. That is always the easiest to start before branching out to meat replaces and foods foreign to your diet. Like: Mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy, pasta- whole wheat & adding greens / or just cheese(if he still eats that) can add protein. mac and cheese- we always add broccoli and sometimes spinach very yummy, easy, and healthier. Pizzas with toppings, NUTS- peanut butter, trail mix, - and so on. brown rice, beans=burritos! ALSO- MOST americans get MORE protein than they could possibly need, so as important as it is, it isn't as detrimental as most people think. I know its been awhile since the OP, how are things going?
Your son sounds like an incredibly compassionate boy. You must be proud of him! I went vegetarian at age nine, though not on my own -- my dad became vegetarian a few months earlier and so I learned about it from him. He didn't cook for me, though, and my omni mom had no idea what to make for me at first. It can be tough! Here are some delicious kid-friendly ideas which, incidentally, are also vegan: * Peanut butter and jelly sandwich * Peanut butter and banana sandwich (I like to mash up the banana until it's fluffy) * Apple with peanut butter * Pita bread with hummus * Soy chicken nuggets * Tacos made with Boca ground "beef", beans, salsa, lettuce, & tomatoes * Vegetarian ham (try Yves brand) and Tofutti cheese on whole wheat bread * Amy's organic soups and burritos * Chocolate soy milk * Tofutti Cuties dairy-free ice cream sandwiches
