pfft. i've worked with, lived with, and did business with enough muslims that i don't for one second believe all muslims are psychos. i consider that far more a factor of their socio-economic vulnerability than anything else. look at the oklahoma city bombers, the uni-bomber, the abortion clinic bombers, the killers of all sorts and types. they use religion as an excuse and a justification. i don't think religion CAUSED this behavior, but that doesn't mean i have to give any respect to their happy little flags they fly. i have every right to abuse any excuse they use to be assholes. assholes are everywhere, under every religion and flag. i don't CARE. but if they leave me be, i'll leave them be. hell, i'll even have a decent discussion with them because my curiosity always gets the best of me. but their imaginary friends mean nothing to me.

I have worked with, done business with, even been to dinner with muslims, and some of them even became my friends, and I used to think they were ordinary everyday muslims and they were, but you know what I dropped them as friends about a year after the london bombings because when I listened to their dads saying that they hated jews and as long as a few jews copped it so what?
and when I listened to my friends arguing that allah is great and that women in this country are tarts because the tempt men into raping them unless they wear medieval dress, and when I heard ordinary muslims telling me they could see why muslims were blowing up londoners that had done nobody any harm. That's when I knew that anyone who says ordinary muslims dont want this extremism to happen is ignoring one fact. They All believe that if the muslim extremists get what they want, then all muslims will benifit and that, my friends is the truth about muslims, even the ordinary ones cannot separate their religion from their politics and view western society as corrupt -
And this is not from knowing one or two this is literally hundreds, but not now, now I dont want to associate myself with that twisted mindset.
That isnt racism that is pragmatism. I would prefer to disassociate with those who hate my culture than to strick around and listen to medieval bullshit

I think they should mix if they are compatible, if not then go the fuck somewhere you can have shariah law. You want shariah law - you can get it in a shitload of other countries. It aint comin here. I will tell you why. Until recently the academics were mainly and broadly speaking to the left of centre on political issues. That is to say, they professed to be left wing in both their public life and their private life. These days, apart from a few hardline left wingers like Terry eagleton who would lose a lot of face if he had to back down on his left wing leanings now, the great majority of academics would profess to be centre ground on politics in public but in private they are moving much further to the right wing. whereas only a decade ago you would be hard pushed to find even people of mediocre intelligence arguing the policies of the right wing. Now you will find very hardcore academics who allude to the content of their private politics as leaning heavily right. Of course they wouldnt come right out and say it - they could lose their jobs over it, but I KNOW these to be facts

Right wingers, in the US atleast, are people who vote based on false religious morals, for greed, racism, classism, or they are normal people who have been duped into believing that right wing policies somehow favor them...and they don't. They favor the incredibly rich. Its already a fucking aristocracy over here, so the last thing we need is extra special government treatment of the top 1% wealthiest people. In my opinion, the right wing mindset (not across the board, but in many cases) is about self self self and in total contrast to the idea that we are a society that needs to look out for eachother. The funny thing is, if you are selfish AND smart, you would still be a liberal, because you know that ultimately what is best for society as a whole is the best for yourself.

Athiests, never said I had a problem with them either...but an athiest is not a religion basher by definition. I am not involved with any organized religion, but I don't think any less of people who are. but anyway, mamakcita, from the posts Ive read of yours in the past you seem like a fairly compassionate person, and like I said I think its fine that you feel how you do about Islam. But why start categorizing the people?? Thats blind hate. You see, if more people would just do the whole put yourself in anothers shoes thing, thats when they would see the bigger picture. Well, first of all, thats beside the point.

But anyway, I know enough. I live in a city where there is a fairly large Arab community, so I do deal with Muslims on a daily basis, and its generally in kindness. I used to be in love with a Muslim girl, and if I based my beliefs about the Muslim community on her and her alone I would be running around singing the praises of Islam...hell, Id probably convert. But see, again that would be faulty thinking, because I realize that my small experience doesn't add up to some universal truth. This really has nothing to do with Muslims, it has everything to do with your irrational beliefs.
