Damn straight Lou is cool. In fact, he is the coolest. True, rock legend right there. :H

They're not too bad. What is it that you think the fans "don't get"? You don't want to become an elitist, man. Elitists usually actually don't know shit about music anyway. They act as though they do, but really all they have is an opinion and an attitude.

I don't know if Velvet Revolver is any good. I've heard their first single, and I wasn't impressed. I don't know, but for some reason, they just seem so... unoriginal. But that's just me.

Slash quit Guns because he wanted to do Classic, balls-to-the-wall rock, and thought that Axle was both domineering and was headed more in a classical direction. Both Slash's Snakepit and Velvet Revolver are both balls-to-the-wall rock, and generally rock is a pretty "inside the box" style. Pentatonic or Blues Minor scales, and G, C, D, and E chords. It's not really like progressive rock or fusion Jazz where you can play outside the box. Most people who like classic, hard rock aren't into originality so much as party rock.

True. For me, however, I just can't stand what a lot of people would call "traditional hard rock." I hate late 70's/80's hard rock. I think it's just terrible. When I hear AC/DC or something, I simply cringe. I don't know, I guess I just have slightly eccentric tastes.

Yeah, the guys who wear leather pants and stand around at the bar all day, who only like hard rock are just as bad as the Jazz elitist. Liking one style is very close-minded, which is fine for them, but to me, that's a sad way to go through life. One of my favorite bands is AC/DC, actually. It takes a while to get into Bonn's or Brian's voice.

I'm into progressive rock because a lot like you (or anyone looking for originality) I look for unique compositional structure - odd time signatures, constantly changing meter, "outside the box" phrases that don't fit the standards of theoretical classical composition, and great harmonization behind keys and guitars -, but I also love classic hard rock, classical, jazz, funk, neoclassical, you name it. There are so many styles out there, that can fit so many of your moods. If you really allow yourself to be open, you'll find that to be true. AC/DC isn't really one of those bands you listen to when you're in a philosophical mode,... more when you're partying your ass off. They're also one of the greatest live shows I've ever seen. Sometimes original music can just not be fitting to the time.

You're right. I don't only listen to psychedelic/progressive music either. I often listen to some good ol' Who and Led Zeppelin to get my fill of screaming guitars and insane drums. However, The Who isn't all show either. Their albums Tommy and Quadrophenia have some of the best melodies and songwriting I have ever heard in rock 'n' roll. You do need a balance of, in my opinion, hard rock, blues, progressive, and psychedelic music to truly appreciate what rock 'n' roll is all about.

Velvet Revolver isn't that bad. I've heard worse. ;) But Slash was a million times cooler in Guns&Roses, in my opionion.

And you can only take so much AC/DC. I like a couple songs, but can't really get into the whole thing.
Winter time means for me .... BOB DYLAN TIME! :) Okay, that's all the time, but still ;)
