Which genres of music or artists or songs can't you listen to at all? I like a lot of genres, but some I really can't stand to listen to at all. My list includes: German Ompah or whatever. Tubas give me the creeps. Death Metal Big Band Jazz Phillip Boring Glass! High School Marching Bands Anything too loud (I have partial hearing loss from loud concerts in my youth.)
That made me laugh!!! I do have to agree about some of the above... Tubas, gotta go... Death Metal and Metal anything dark, go away! Marching Bands and especially bagpipes. The late queen was nuts, and had a personal bagpiper play outside her window at dawn every day. Too loud, not my scene, only one concert like that for me, it was Beck. Had to stuff shreds of paper towels in my ears to save my hearing and brain from damage. I have to add OPERA. Good thing there is a lot of other stuff to enjoy.
Teeny Bopper music, ie songs made to please young teenage girls. Yes there's money in it but it's so annoyingly pretentious, not to mention so sweet it could give you diabetes!
We also called it Bubble Gum music. I think K-Pop fits in that category. First song I thought of is "Yummy, yummy, I've got love in my tummy." Interesting when you consider what was going on in the 60s, musically and socially.
Autotune. Hate it. Can't take more than a few seconds of it before beginning to feel anger at having to hear it - so I turn it off as quickly as possible.
Elevator Musak. It's like pablum for the ears. Pop go the Classics. Both are abominations. Case studies on how to ruin a good tune. I'll probably get shit for this, but Donny and Marie and the whole darn Osmond family. This interview of Donny with Ushi Van Dyke is hysterical.
No Worries Wil! We all love a lot of music, even hearing La Boheme was a treat Fun to hear something so different for a change.
99% of the last 40 years.. Besides the awful production, engineering, lack of originality, vocals, there's no great songs and after a while, it's the definition of insanity to expect anything else, so I constantly find great stuff on YouTube from the 60/70s (non-commercial stuff, or in the least, the solo albums of a band like The Temptations (Eddie Kendricks)
I agree. I find myself listening to the same music I did as a teen in the 60s. Doesn't every generation enjoy the music from their youth? I do like a lot of recent house music, like Robin Schulz. But that's more about the catchy beats than the rest of the music, much less any message they want to convey. But that's the European house scene which goes back generations, and it's like raves in the states. Lots of good music to explore. I use youtube too. I love the videos and their algorithms that find more music you like, but any player can do that.
The vast majority of Country music. I grew up with it. I have not downloaded or streamed a Country song in approximately 25 years. Gotta maintain that solid abstinence based approach when dealing with music you hate.
Rap Grunge What ever you call that stuff all the chicks sing in all the new Disney movies. All the new women singers like Beyonce, Lady Gaga, etc. Hip hop Boy bands like Boyz II Men, NSYNC, etc. Metallica, Kiss, AC/DC, etc.
I just never learned to enjoy rap music. The sole exception to this is some of the old MC Hammer songs, like "This is what we do", because Hammer had such a unique style that separated him from his peers in a good way.
