I don't care much for body builder types...of any gender...but broad shoulders are nice on a male....

I generally prefer skinny guys, but I've been attracted to guys with muscles, as long as they're not too big,it creeps me out otherwise, but if they're lean and have some kind of muscle definition I think it can be extremely sexy. It's something I can appreciate, but don't consider important at all.

I think the same applies for girls, I know plenty who have toned bodies, but still look extremely feminine.

its pretty important for me to have muscle mass. only way I could continue to lift the weights i want to lift and the sports i play. physique wise, i'm not even close to being what most think of as a bodybuilder.

and i hate people think people who have an intense focus at the gym have little going on in their brain. silliness

I hate that stereotype too. I totally get what people are saying in this thread about just being themselves, etc but not everyone who hits the gym is shallow or dumb or superficial. There are lots of things to consider. Some people are being themselves by doing what they do.

First....women and men who look super toned in internet pics....they don't normally look like that most of the time. They look like that after a rigorous work out. Once they cool down, their bodies don't look as big or as toned. But so what if they did look like that all the time. It doesn't affect me at all. I happen to be one of those people who look pretty ripped while working out. Right now my arms look fairly normal but earlier at the gym...you could count every line in the muscles from my shoulders to my wrists. I don't look like that 24-7 and it doesn't mean I'm dumb just because I can look like that.

Secondly....I'm not a hulk sort of guy. I'm fairly lean but well-built. It is important for me to stay that way just for health reasons, if nothing else. It's not just lifting, running etc. It takes a commitment to a healthy lifestyle. And you don't have to commit to my lifestyle just to be healthy...obviously. But some people hit the gym for different reasons than many people think.

Third....women in great shape are super hot to me. I'm not talking about bodybuilder women but if a woman can bang out 20 pull-ups....she's in shape!

I hate to say it...but you have muscles...whether you like them or not. :) The only way to not see them is to cover them up with something besides muscle and skin. ;)

I'll be honest, I'm mostly riding on all the exercise I did when I was 18.

Also, I would like to announce that I now have visible biceps if I flex really hard. Upper body muscles are a mother fucking bitch for me to build, and I finally have tiny biceps.

I'd gladly share some of mine, lol. My mom wouldn't let me wear sleeveless shirts to picture day anymore after 8th grade because I made my brother look like a wimp. (click on the thumbnail for the full-size pic, I just didn't want to destroy slow computers with the huge ass webcam picture and I'm too lazy to resize right now)

I guess muscles are getting less and less important to show off as I get older.
But considering I work for a living I'm going to have to change my attitude

bro it's obviously not about mass. Only roided out freaks think like that. It's about how much you can lift. I've seen compact, well proportioned, fit looking dudes who can bench press way more than those bulky roid freaks.

The best way to look is well-rounded. You really have to focus on the core and back, and then the chest and arms/shoulders, etc will follow. And you can't neglect the legs or the flexibility!

its definitely not about mass. It's about fitness in general. It feels way better to be fit enough to be able to run and jump and hang off things and climb trees and shit than to just walk around with your shoulders sticking out of your neck. Fitness should be practical, not aesthetic. Besides, its the practical sort of fitness that looks attractive anyways.

i don't understand why people give a rat how much they can lift either. that's what machines are for, and how people get hernias.

i know they're there. they do their job just fine, without being obtrusively ostentatious. they won't set any records, but they seriously don't need to either. they move my fingers as i type on this keyboard. they allow me to get up and walk around and go for long walks out in the real world. in short, everything there is any real need for them to do. all without ugly show-offy-ness.
