Yeah, I always mispeal that, and the fact that I got one of those T-Shirts with a cereal bowl on it saying cereal killers doesn't help me remember the difference, LOL.
if one death can prevent the deaths and suffering of many, then and only then it might be justified. if one wishis to take one's own life the only bussiness that would be of anyone else is about cleaning up the mess. it may be possible to err on the side of killing too seldom, but that is the preferable side to err on. in no event is vengence ever sufficient justification, although the demise of those who knowingly and willingly of their own free and uncoerced choice, cause suffering and death to many is no loss to anyone. it is better to bring an end to suffering being caused, then to the life of anyone. =^^= .../\...
Substituting "murder" for "killing," I pick all of them, plus other things, like (just plain) suicide, self-defense.
i don't exactly agree with abortion and death penalty but for abortion, i think its free choice and for death penalty, i think it depends on the crime the person committed.
I do not think abortion is murder, nor do I think assisted suicide is murder. I am not against either.
"Dying is a deeply personal and private act that the government should have zero say regarding. If someone wants to die with the aid of a doctor and his pleasant drugs then he/she should be allowed that option." Fuckin damn straight, Cynical Otter. I couldn't agree more.
I don't really understand how you can say abortion isn't murder if you're using the definition of "forcefully ending another life." A developing embryo/fetus IS alive by all scientific means: it is made of dividing cells, it requires water, oxygen, and nourishment. It has a heartbeat after about 4 weeks and its own blood supply. Now, whether or not it should be a legal form of murder is another matter. Personally, I believe it should be legal for one reason only: if a woman is raped, she should have the right to an abortion. You CANNOT make abortion illegal "except in cases of rape, incest, blah, blah blah..." That sounds nice and fair in writing, but how would you implement that? 98% of rape victims NEVER see their rapist go to jail, and if you can't prove you've been raped, how would you be allowed an abortion? Plus, even if you could prove it, the court process takes MONTHS and during that time the baby is getting bigger and bigger. It's sad but true, and should NEVER be taken lightly, but abortion is a legal necessity if you believe rape victims should be allowed abortions. Abortions for other reasons are tragic offsets of this necessary situation. As for the others... Assisted suicide: hell yes, when it comes to the chronically ill. Others seeking suicide should be given help when at all possible. Death penalty: No, legal system makes too many errors for that. Although I admittedly think rapists and pedophiles should have their genitalia removed in the name of "disarming the perpetrator". Other/Self-defense: Yes. Even if there was a technical chance that there could have been another way out of the situation, if someone is about to rape you are you really going to have time to critically weigh all possible options? People panic, shit happens. And no one can say exactly what they would do in any situation until they've been there themselves. War: No, if you have a problem, fight your own battles. There's a reason so many combat veterans come back with PTSD: We aren't supposed to be killing each other!!!
