Multiple Shooting Deaths At Pittsburgh Area Synagogue

The Tree Of Life Synagogue in Squirrel Hill was attacked. One suspect has surrendered himself.

There are 12 shootings with 4 dead. Three police officers have been shot.

It's now up to 8 dead. The suspect, Robert Bowers, a 46 year old man--a gun freak with a social media history of anti-Semitic rants-- armed with an AR-15 and two hand guns, was shouting "All Jews Must Die" before he opened fire.

Id an alert on my phone about 3mins after a gunfire opened up. Dug it up on FB, turned on the scanner. Total chaos. Drove over that was/out of my way. Roads blocked off, police and ambulances scrambling, but heavy action was completed when I was around there. High level of police presence in the city right now. Halloween and other event canceled in The Squirrel Hill area..

 

We refuse to get serious about gun laws and access to mental health, while the media and our government promote a culture of fear, hatred, and bigotry.

Not sure how I'm supposed to react to this kind of news anymore.

 

It's difficult to do anything but feel sad.

At the law enforcement briefing this morning, a police spokesperson said they're working on that, but Bowers has so far been charged with a hate crime. The official said that the distinction is that domestic terrorism involves actions on behalf of an ideology. I'd think Anti-Semitism would be enough. The guy was shouting "All Jews Must Die!"

 

In that sense terrorism is a pedantic legal definition, It's obviously terrorism. But we don't bring in the military to fight domestic terrorism or hate crimes.

Bowers was charged late Saturday with 11 state counts of criminal homicide, six counts of aggravated assault and 13 counts of ethnic intimidation in what the leader of the Anti-Defamation League called the deadliest attack on Jews in U.S. history.
