Darn bear got my bird feeders again. I have a ten foot long, inch and a quarter steel pole sunk in concrete outside my kitchen window so we can watch the birds and squirrels. We forgot to take the feeders in on Wednesday night and mister bear came around looking for a snack. He bend the pole down to the driveway and destroyed the seed and suet feeders. I unbent the pole and hammered the feeders back into shape and Thursday night we remembered to bring the feeders in, so as not to attract him back. Friday morning the pole was bend down to the ground again. This time when I unbent it I reinforced it with a piece of angle iron and also welded some side stabilizers to it. Friday night we removed the feeders. Got up today, Saturday. Guess what? Pole's on the ground again. This time bend in two places. I'm afraid if I straighten it again it's gonna' snap. This time I'm leaving it on the ground for about a week hoping Mr. Bear moves on, then if it snaps when I straighten it I'll have to weld it back together. We're just using a shepherd's hook as a temporary post until we think the coast is clear. At least he didn't destroy any trees!
Oh no. I wonder if you can get a ranger in or something to try and remove the bear? I did see a video of a cat who managed to scare off a bear on youtube. I will find it and post it up here.
There's A Good One Too Of A Ginger Cat Chasing A Black Bear Up A Tree And Then Just Sitting At The Base Looking Up........Only A "Ginger" Could Do That......I Don't Know If Any Of You Remember Me Posting That My Ginger Cat "Escorted" A Kangaroo Across My Back Paddock And Put Him Over A Fence.......Don't Mess With A "Ginger"...... Cheers Glen.
Irish spring soap shaving around grounds,, bear never come back.. bear aint nothing but a giant ground hog.
Bears are fun! One day I came home from shopping and found a black bear sleeping on the back porch steps. He was so sleepy he didn't want to move, and I wasn't getting out of the van until he left... so after much honking of horns, and loud playing of some Jimi Hendrix, said bear finally ambled off... slowly. Giving me looks as he left...with attitude. The next day I was at the dining table reading, glanced up, and there he was stretched out full height leaning on the plate glass window! Fortunately the window held, he got tired of staring at me - and he left. Never to be seen again.
Aww they do seem to be cute! I wonder if your pets reacted differently though. Like the cat scaring off the bear in the video
Here in australia we get koalas in our trees. Koalas are cute smallish bears with big claws. The males wake you up by grunting. The females wake us up by sounding like a feral cat.
