was talking to a friend of mine who is a sales manager at a large Ford Dealership here and the govenment in now put a mandate that the manufactures of cars will have a certain MPG they will have to reach..I think he said all new vehicles starting 2016 will have to get at least 40mpg

My grandma had one of those. Hers was a 3 cylinder so it didn't have much power but I think she was getting about 50 mpg.

Mines got almost 200,000 miles on that 3 cylinder. Good power, even better since I modified the exhaust. Fun as shit, at 1600 lbs drives like a go-cart! :2thumbsup:

If you like that go-cart feel (and I love it) you should give a MINI Cooper a spin if you ever get the chance. It's like playing Mario-Cart for real....minus the coins and bananas. Very light car with a lot of power and torque. :)

i have no idea...i just know my small truck costs about 60 bucks a week on fuel if im just using it errands...90 if use it for towing

the bigger 3/4 ton 4x4 gets gallons per mile so i barely use it

im switching to a smaller awd suv soon

the last metro i owned was free...i picked it up at an intersection...the owner got a red light and when he hit the brakes the sub frame let go ..left tire was going left and right tire was going right ...engine/trans basically sitting on the ground...it was hard to load that one

Just got done driving mine. :afro:

There are different models. If you get the chance...shoot for the small one. That's what I have. It's the fastest, best handling and most gas efficient model. The others are great too but they weigh a lot more which affects all three of those things. There is a model that has a 6 inch longer wheel base than mine....it's twice as heavy. No idea why. That's nuts.

My guess is because they wanted to make a quieter ride. Lots of lead blanketing and more bracing in the panels and doors. longer wheelbase for more forgiving steering feel.
Later model Metros went with a 4cylider 1300 and weigh a lot more too.

Ah...That makes sense because I remember the salesman telling me those models also have a different exhaust that is quieter and less sporty sounding.

I'm not sure which Metro engine my grandma had but it seemed like a good car. She loved it.

Lotta rusted-out Metros out there, I inspected the entire tub from underneath very carefully before I bought it for that very reason. Just a tiny bit of rust on the strut towers, nothing to worry about.
I'm lucky mine is from a salt-free and relatively dry western state.

I wouldn't want to get in a wreck in this tin can thats for sure.

My wife used to date a guy who drove a rusted out Yugo and a $20k+ Harley. The Yugo was so rusty that a week after he sold it, the frame broke in half. Looks like he sold that car at the right time. :)
