i don't really get scared by supernatural horrors.... two horror films that immediately come to mind that really creeped me out were : 1. HOSTEL 2. CREEP way more scary than any supernatural horror in my opinion... with one exception that just popped into my head... 3. THE RING
Hellbound: Hellraiser II. This movie gave me nightmares. It's depiction of hell is so close to what my idea of hell would be like, that I can hardly bear to watch it. It also shows a character skinless, which is something that bothers me on a deep level, almost the way some people feel about fire.
Silent Hill The Hills Have Eyes House of 100 Corpses I don't know if the were scary or just disturbing.
Galaxy Of Terror -1981 I get goose bumps from top to bottom just remembering it, even tho it's been over 20 years since i've seen it!
A movie that scared me years ago was " The Town That Dreaded Sundown". Seen it at the drive-in movies when I was a teenage.
ahh, i'm glad to see mentions of Kwaidan and Hellraiser II ...actually, it's best if you watch the first two hellraiser movies back to back for a true creepfest! i'd also have to add both Dr. Phibes movies, Theatre of Blood, Nosferatu, Cemetery Man, Gates of Hell, Phantasm and Reanimator to the list
Back in the day, The Island of Dr. Moreau was pretty scary ) http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5058/islandofdrmoreau.jpg By blackglove, shot with Canon PowerShot SD800 IS at 2009-10-30
For that picture in proportion (unless you're using Internet Explorer..) http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/5058/islandofdrmoreau.jpg Anybody here ever read 'Danse Macbre'? If not, it's a great introduction to the horror genre, and there's a lot of the book dedicated solely to horror films.
Yes. An excellent non-fiction King novel. He has a lot of insight into the genre, both in film and writing.
I like to think I am 'pretty tough' about spooky paranormal things, (even in reality, and way less so in movies) ...but gotta say 'The Entity' tripped me a fair bit (evil rapist spirit haunting thing ... which claims to be true arrrgghhhh) ...but the only one that really really fucked me over was "The Ring'. Thats twisted shit. I have a fairly extensive dvd collection (around 1500) so it was not odd for me to just buy this movie prior to watching it, but it was a waste of money coz it has been banished to the back of the cupboard never to be seen again lol. After seeing that, I get freaked on any movie where there is a character doing that slow, jerking, creepy walk thing. Not for the movie itself, but coz it brings back Samara to my mind. Latest example I saw (6 months ago) was 'Nailed' ...was just ok in quality, but arrghhh that jerky walk thing was in it and made me wanna turn it off. The original japanese horrors are the creepiest tho imo, .. more freaky than the Hollywood versions.
It looks interesting although dated. I was looking at some other movie clips from the same time period, and there were a number low budget sci-fi B movies that I've never even heard of like Xtro, Forbidden world (1982) Planet Terror, Inseminoid, Humanoids from the deep, and Creature (1985) Are any of these movies worth renting? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxvajOyAaBo&feature=related"]YouTube- GALAXY OF TERROR / PLANET OF HORRORS Hotwater
Wow, nice to see someone more obsessive than me. My DVD collection is only a third that size. I carry a list of what I have so I don't end up buying the same vid twice.
Oh, and yeah, ... I have ended up with around a dozen doubles over that time, ... but they make nice treats for friends
It really depends on your tastes. I used to love those movies! Although i don't remember them very well now as it's been so long. Back then i was either high or on coke, or both. lol I don't think i've seen Inseminoid. Most of those movies were pretty well done at that time. Nowadays people may laugh at them and call them crap. I would still watch them today because i appreciate the times they were made in (if that makes any sense). And i have a good imagination. I don't sit back and look for zippers on monster suits, or strings holding up spaceships, if you know what i mean. I was watching Galaxy of Terror on cable late one night and there was this part where a woman was being striped, and she was screaming. My wife came out and saw me looking at her boobs and went apeshit on me, so i had to turn it off. I don't miss her very much. lol But i saw it later and it freaked me out big time! Like i said, it was a long time ago, and i was probably on something at the time. And the special effects were of that time period for sure. But for me, it's all good. I watch sci fi and horror junk from the 50's and love it also. I just get into it.
I found the movie 'Deliverance' to be VERY psychologically disturbing. Not scary like violence or gore wise, but very psychologically scary. The isolation, the feeling of being so helpless and vulnerable in an environment that is not your own. :hide: very scary.
