anyone know any movies about the hippy movement in the 60s and 70s?? they can be made during the time or after the time. for a research essay, we get to pick any movie and write a report on it....so i thought this would be an interesting subject. thanks .
A few movies that deal with various aspects of the 60's counterculture, in no particular order. All are worth seeing at least once, several of them are in the "must see" category. Easy Rider Alice's Restaurant Flashback Steal This Movie Billy Jack Berkeley in the Sixties The 60's (NBC miniseries) Rude Awakening Conspiracy:Trial of the Chicago 8 Joe I Love You, Alice B. Toklas Woodstock Making Sense of the Sixties (PBS miniseries)
ellis, i'm interested in the "Making sense of the sixties" miniseries. How can I get ahold of a copy?
I taped it when it was originally aired (over a decade ago!). Some public libraries have a copy, or could find it for you. At worst, you could buy a (ridiculously overpriced) copy from PBS video: http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/MRC/SenseSixties.html Six hours total, dealing with all aspects of the cultural upheaval and fallout of the time. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. If you can't track down a copy, I could dub you a copy, but the quality isn't going to be too great (second generation copy of a well-worn EP VHS tape).
Psych Out (1968) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0063469/) The Trip (1967) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062395/)
I've seen Phych Out I have a book that I can list more from: Riot on the Sunset Strip The Cross & the Switchblade Medium Cool Mondo Mod, & Hollywood Zabriskie Point Woodstock Hair Monterey Pop Are a few
Yeah can't get any better than reality of the woodstock, no scripts but raw footage of one of the most amazing festivals ever..
whoo hoo!! thanks for all the replies so far...you don't know how much this has helped me out. wow, i'm actually getting really excited about this assignment. .
i bought those movies on 2 seperate dvds from amazon.co.uk, but in the US both movies are on one dvd, called 'Midnight Movies', and it has several special features (which the european dvds unfortunately don't have). you can buy the dvd from amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008973J/qid%3D1105099326/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/102-8572472-1410528
Do you mean "Tie-Died: Rock 'n Roll's Most Deadicated Fans", the movie about the Grateful Dead tour scene? The OP wanted films about the 60s/70s hippie movement, not today's hippies.
I would not recommend Psych Out if your trying to get an accurate picture of what the sixties were actually like. It's a hilarious movie, but some of the "hippies" are just way to hostile, and I mean, Jack Nicholsan-a hippie? I watched this with my mom once, who was a hippie during the sixties, and she kept telling me to just turn it off because it was so totally not representative of what the sixties were about. My favorite hippie movies are: Alice's Restaurant, Easy Rider, and Steal this Movie..............Peace...........Stacey
