well...are Manowar underrated or overrated?I hear many ppl not liking them, actually hating them, and I can't get the reason why. They're epic metal, true but they sound very heavy metal, more than Iron Maiden I think...
Death is okay, but not underrated. I personally think they are even slightly overrated, but okay. Obituary is boring, period. Kreator is my favourite thrash metal band ever. Great songwritership from the beginning on, their first album sounds rather primitive but it's chock full of great melodies and I think that the people who stopped listenening when they entered their more progressive phase (Renewal, Cause for conflict...) are a bit daft. I think there's plenty of bands deserving of more credit than they have gotten so far. I nominate Summoning (mid-tempo symphonic black metal), Cirith Gorgor (black metal), Enthroned (black metal), Dark Fortress (black metal), Solefald (experimental black-ish metal), Falkenbach (a thin waffle of black metal covered abundantly with delicious germanic folk music), The Prophecy (goth-death-doom metal a la My Dying Bride's Turn loose the swans), and actually doom metal in gereral has been a style much overlooked within the metal genre.
Rapcore does not count (it's a goddamn punk-rap hybrid, we're talking METAL here). Punk metal does not exist, neither does garage metal. We're talking about heavy metal, power metal, speed metal, death metal, black metal, thrash metal, folk / viking metal, doom metal, dark metal, gothic metal, true metal, blackened death metal, norsecore, nsbm, progressive metal, fantasy metal, industrial metal, hoe-down metal, brutal death metal, symphonic epic hobbit metal, true unholy aryan christraping black metal, and the village people. Hm... It's those tight and revealing Conan the barbarian suits that makes people hate them... they could as well wear nothing. I wouldn't mind at all unlike most others if only they looked okay. Musically, they're quite alright. Except for their EXTREME CHEESINESS. Cannibal Corpse and Deicide are semi-underground legends. No underrating involved here. I gave my Wages of sin & Rare and unreleased away, I didn't like it AT ALL. Besides, they're relatively well-liked too. BTW, Another underrated band: Ancient Rites.
definetly DEATH, it seems not alot of people know them or they think there not great. Chuck Schuldiner was an amazing vocalists, guitarist, and bassist, if you listen to every album you notice his voice changes a bit every album. He always changed his shit around, now that takes fucking talent. all the music i write is very Death influenced considering i play so many of there songs so it comes to me like that. i also think Sepultura is underrated especially there old stuff with the old singer. last but not least i think cannibal corpse is underrated, im sure even alot of people on here think they suck but dam if you listen to the guitars in there just DAAAAM and the bassist is fuckin awsome too, the singer is just insane to be able to growl the way he does, i have a live video of them so even when he talks normally you can tell his voice is fucked its all deep and shit i swear that guy is not human lol. anyway those are the bands i believe to be underrated only the true metal fans like myself and others enjoy the art and genius behind this great music
I'd actually say Ozzy, someone on VH1 put it the best: "Ozzy is loved for being Ozzy, Ozzy is worshiped for being Ozzy, but Ozzy will never get the respect he deserves as an artist and singer."
nice thread guys I saw Kreator when they toured the states some years ago, and we were thrilled to have the chance to see em. They are a great group of guys, who were then and still are likely way ahead of their musical time. I managed to get some time with them after the show, and they were very cool to meet and hang with. I am amazed to even hear that anyone here would give them any credit at all, so they have my vote for most under-appreciated! Sanctuary had a nice sound, basic metal, and a wailer of a vocalist. They never get mentioned, but I liked what I saw from them. Not great, but good.
I've never even heard of a band called Sanctuary. Sounds Iron Maiden-ish. I don't like "wailing" vocals myself... regular heavy metal should have a more raw, powerful voice instead of some kind of eunuch.
actualy i dont know how those fools got the name slipknot ? some old freinds of mine had a band slipknot they were a jam band every year they would do slip into summer and slip out of summer shows buddy cage would come and sit in yorma and danko would com they were from mass and they rocked!!
Sanctuary was a Dave Mustaine produced thing, and a bit maiden in sound. They did a nice heavy cover of White Rabbit with DM adding a lead. I like a wailing vocalist at times, if they hit it in key and dont use it as their only riff.
Yeah, their inspiration from Maiden was evident in their bandname. Especially power metal uses these high-pitched vocalists and this is one of the reasons all other metal fans always call power metal bands gay. You should listen to Evergrey, a Swedish power / heavy metal band but with a darker touch to them, and a great singer with a strong, raw voice that is still full of emotion. Also Iced Earth's ex-singer Matthew Barlow had a great voice like that, too bad he's replaced by the wailing Tim Owens (former Judas Priest)... they're not the same anymore. Anyway, check out their live album Alive in Athens if you can for some GREAT heavy metal with amazing vocals.
