all people of words to music are voices i feel.. but its choice i feel those who speak to the people not just the wage.... those who raise awareness who represent not just the time before but in the future.. the messege is nearlly always the same we are all human we need peace we are the many we make a stand..... yet today the generation of tv top of the pops is letting our kids down and hiding the world. for, to find the real voices we have to search ...... so time now is the choice..the let down. the imprisonment of change of struggle is upon our ears so play it loud and clear to all.. leonard cohen dod dylan bob marly hendrix melanie safka all who jump into our hearts and minds to break the system alittle...bit by bit.... and let all new voices be heard play loud and for all lovenpeace from saff : ill drink some of yours if you"ll drink all of mine...: melanie safka... the need to express life..in these words
Mh...a great indecision,i can't choose only one! But first of all i'd think about Jim Morrison and Janis Joplin. Than thinking about italian music of the 60's i should choose Lucio Battisti...maybe most of you don't know him,but i can swear that he's the best!
Hendrix, Dylan, Paul Simon, Wes Montgomery, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Miles Davis, Jorma Kakonen (of Jefferson Airplane, sorry about the spelling).
It's a matter of opinion... for me it would probably be Roger Waters. The lyrics on songs like Wish You Were Here and Shine On You Crazy Diamond in particular (as well as many others) are the work of a poetic genius..
I noticed the conversation is about Poetic Musicians... Thought I would Share my Works with Everyone. There is a variety of Flava ... Hope you can vibe with it >> There are a lot of Artists who are not mainstream...We like to stay Indie http://www.reverbnation.com/luckycharmvibes
It is truly a matter of taste .. I would say.. I love Tracy chapman, Me'shell Ndegeocllo, Gil Scott Heron, Sting (of the Police), Paul Simon, Incognito, Soul II Soul, Tribe called Quest, OutKast, Garth Brooks, Stevie Nicks, Culture Club (wow) ... the list can grow on the poetic flow.
Still Can't narrow it down... there are some powerful heavy hitters ... that simply can't be Placed in a competition zone. It would depend on what words the listener is connecting with at a particular moment. That is what makes poetry seperate from just music or singing it is not just about making a hit, it is about truly conveying messages.
Where slot machine confusions And the plastic universe Are objects of amusement In the fiction of their curse And where the crazy whiteman And his teargas happiness Lies dead and long since buried By his own fantastic mess For I hate the whiteman And his plastic excuse For I hate the whiteman And the man who turned him loose... And the reins of coloured thunder Of the stallion of the dawn Ride the coalfire morning On the beach where all is born Where the emperor of meaning Is burning up his forts And sits to warm his toes around A fire made up of useless thoughts And when the children tempt him With the riddles of their trance He flings the flames of solstice Casting laughs into their dance roy harper id also put neil young up there
I respect both, but I think Garfunkle is the better poet of the two. Paul is perhaps the better story teller.
and billy bragg, cos the poetry that resonates most with me tends to be simplistic, even brutally blunt, frank turner in that sense too.
Steve Kilbey (The Church) Richard Butler (The Psychedelic Furs) My two favourite opening lines from their songs: The universe is female, eluding the science of men. (Essence - The Church) This day is not my life. The passing time is not my life. (House - The Psychedelic Furs) I just love that shit.
Certainly have to say David Gilmour and Roger water/Pink Floyd. Bob dylan, Neil Young, Don Henley/Eagles. Those stand out the most
