all mine seem to be food, water and temperature management

extra gloves and waterproof/windproof/breathable overtrousers/jacket, im either too hot or cold!
    couple of litres of water
as many calories as i can squeeze into my pack
    bog roll
and.... binoculars (im nosey and inquisitive)

i really need to take a knife or multitool as everybody else seems to - though i usually have other tools on site or with me according to what im up to

Yeah don’t forget the condoms haha,

How do you make improvised condoms in the woods?
Maybe kill a moose and make one out of the small intestine? Haha

I think a bic lighter and a tarp are my most important things. And TP.

Just put them in the pack, they weigh almost nothing... I only remember because I met a woman once on a hike and didn't get none... guess why? And it wasn't because I couldn't find a moose to kill.

If you're a long-distance or thru hiker, very rarely. I mean, who wants to be on the trail for 10 weeks without a shower, and hook up with a woman who has been on the trail for 10 weeks without a shower. You spend most of your time thinking about food and shelter. And if you can focus only on that, you will probably get as far as your goal.

Actually, it was at a camp out that had a shower area, but we hiked and fished and did other nature things away from camp, thats where I hooked up with her... but I agree with ya, I'd rather get sweaty with her, not be stinking from before.

I offend myself after 10 days of ups and downs. I can only imagine PCT hikers after a week in the desert. Lying among the scorpions trying to get my freak on. The smell would attract carrion eaters.

    I think I'll pass...

number one is a knife. personally carry one around with me everywhere(except planes...).

Like someone mentionned the most important stuff should be on your person, either in your pockets or tied around your neck on a string(that way if you lose or misplace your pants...). Most good knives have a way to string them and for small stuff(fire starter, compas, whistle...) you can make a simple pouch...

I am a firm believer in a survival kit but emergencies differ for many occasions. So what I do is keep several, each in different type packs that are likely to be used in different local emergencies. For example... the one I keep in my laptop/book bag has stuff like a needle and thread for when my zipper blows out... but that one doesnt have iodine tabs or fish hooks in it. I use an altoids tin for most of them except the ones that go on extended trips then I use something like a plastic jar. BTW... good backup fire plan is to learn to make a bow drill out of a bootlace, but I always have an extra bic in several places.

    1. My knife! I have a cold steel bushman. great knife and only $20!
    2. stove + denatured alchol (for killing the little ones in the water and cooking)
    3. firesteel!
    4. rope
    5. extra socks!

my list really depends on the type of camping.
